Broccoli’s Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is directed by Academy Award® winner Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his third film as James Bond 007. The screenplay is written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and John Logan. SKYFALL, which goes into production on Monday, November 7th, will begin its worldwide roll-out in the UK and Ireland on October 26th 2012 and in North America on November 9th 2012.

Deadline bring word that Universal Pictures have dropped out of funding the super-ambitious adaptation of the Stephen King seven-novel saga ‘ The Dark Tower.’ The plan was to launch the series as a feature film trilogy and two seasons of a television series. Considering just the sheer ambition of this project I’ve been super excited – bummer! Ron Howard has been attached to direct from Akiva Goldsman and Mark Verheiden’s script, Javier Bardem had landed the lead role of Roland “Gunslinger” Deschain. The Dark Tower follows Deschain as he travels through an Old West-like landscape in search of the mythical Dark Tower to save civilization, along the way, he encounters characters, good and bad, in a world that has an old West feel.

It looks like the filmmakers will have to find a new backer of what might well be the most ambitious movie project since Bob Shaye allowed Peter Jackson to shoot three installments of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ back to back. Warner Bros. could be a possible alternative for the project. There’s currently no official word on why Universal dropped out of funding the project, they recently passed on green lighting Guillermo del Toro’s ‘At The Mountains of Madness’ as well, which had Tom Cruise linked to star. Deadline summed up the probable reasoning for this decision best with this, “Insiders said that Universal brass loved the filmmakers and the project, but couldn’t make it work with the current budget in its business model.” Fingers crossed the project gets picked up by another studio soon.

Their Jesse James co-stars Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell are also starring in this flick. The NY Post have revealed that Oscar winner Javier Bardem has officially signed an epic deal to star as “Roland Deschain” in the movie and TV adaptations of Stephen King’s seven-novel saga ‘ The Dark Tower’. Universal are reportedly launching both a feature film trilogy and two seasons of a television series based on The Dark Tower mythology.

A well-placed source confirmed to Page Six, “Bardem has signed on to the first movie and the miniseries, but the intention is that he will star in all three movies and each of the TV series. It’s an enormous deal for any actor, but Bardem was always the first choice.”

The story follows “Gunslinger” Deschain as he travels through an Old West-like landscape in search of the mythical Dark Tower to save civilization. The first movie is expected to go into production in September with Ron Howard directing. Considering just the sheer ambition of this project I’m super excited.
