This new clip has emerged online from David Wain‘s upcoming comedy ‘Wanderlust.’ Featuring a first-rate cast in Paul Rudd, Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Malin Akerman, Ray Liotta, Lauren Ambrose, Kathryn Hahn, and Alan Alda, the story follows a couple (Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston) rattled by sudden unemployment. They are forced to move out of their New York household when the husband loses his job. With no other options, they set out to Georgia where they plan to live with family, but along the way end up staying in a nudist commune which they mistook for a bed and breakfast. How was it working alongside the two Jason’s in this friend trio?

Charlie Day: I was lucky enough to do a film with Jason Sudeikis last year, called ‘Going The Distance,’ I also wrote a part with my writing and producing partners on ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ for Sudeikis this year, so this is our third thing together. I think he was the last person to come on board, I was calling him and desperately begging him to take the part, he’s such a talented and funny guy. I really enjoy working with him, we find the same things funny, which is nice in a comedy.

I’ve always been a fan of Jason Bateman, obviously from ‘Arrested Development,’ which I think tonally is very similar to ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia,’ there’s a lot of overlapping fans there in comedy. I was equally thrilled to get to know him, he’s a really personable wonderful human being, extremely funny guy, off the set as well as on the set. I couldn’t keep up with the two Jason’s off the set, they were always cracking jokes, it is hard to keep up. They’re great guys, I feel truly privileged to work with them, I don’t think I could have been surrounded by a better duo.

What drew you to this project?

Charlie Day: I think everybody likes a good old fashioned buddy flick, so when you’re lucky enough to have three people who have chemistry together and familiar sensibilities comically it’s always fun. The Three amigos, the Three stooges, three’s seem to work well (laughs). In this particular film I suppose it could have worked with one or two people, but it happens to lay out that it’s entertaining to watch these three different guys, three different personality’s, a sort of left, right and centre, try to find their way through a situation they wouldn’t normally be in.

Your character is great in this film, what are your thoughts on Dale?

Charlie Day: Dale is the hopeless romantic of the friends. He’s engaged to be married, he’s desperately in love with his fiancé. His boss is a sexual predator, played by Jennifer Aniston, she’s constantly coming on to Dale. All he wants to be is a faithful husband, or husband to be. Often times his buddies don’t understand or symphasize with his plight. I think Dale’s just innocent, he’s sort of got the heart of the film, in terms of trying to be a good guy, and yet starting to do some bad things.

There’s great performances all around, how was Seth’s grasp of all the actors on set?

Charlie Day: I was really impressed with Seth’s ability to wrangle so many big stars and personalities, maybe he just chose wisely because everyone came to set with a great attitude, ready to make the best movie and funniest movie they could. He handled it so well, ultimately we would turn to him and say, “is it working? Is it not working? What are you going for?” He had the responsibility of not only managing all the personalities and senses of humour, but also shaping them into a cohesive film.

Working opposite Jennifer Aniston must have been fun?

Charlie Day: It was! I think people will get a kick out of seeing her play a character who’s as far from safe as you can get, or tame, she plays it so well (laughs). I was shocked, but I have to be in the role. She fully embraced the part, as Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey did. We couldn’t have got a better cast. The bosses, in some sense, they have the most fun stuff to do in the movie, they get to be outrageous and awful people, which is sometimes a lot of fun to play (laughs).

What are your thoughts on your fellow horrible bosses in this film, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell? I thought the three of you were great.

Kevin Spacey: Jennifer Aniston has probably single handily absolutely destroyed whatever reputation that she might have had. She was absolutely so willing to go wherever the script asked her to go, it’s hilarious. Also it’s exactly what I think audiences will dig and enjoy, everyone has sort of flipped, Colin Farrell is known as this sort of sexy guy, in this movie he is about as ugly as you can get (laughs). He’s a remarkable choice, his physical appearance, he’s also an absolutely disgusting character.

The three of us who play these horrible bosses, really give these guys something to fight against. You completely understand why they attempt to end up killing us, it’s just so unfortunate that they are so stupid that everything they set out trying to do doesn’t go in any way, shape or form the way they planned on it going. That’s of course where the hilarity ensues.

How do you see your character, Dave Harken, in ‘Horrible Bosses’?

Kevin Spacey: I did a movie a number of years ago called ‘Swimming With Sharks,’ it seems to me that Harken could be a brother to Buddy Ackerman. Although Ackerman, in a weird way, he was up to something and you could question the ulterior motive to the sort of meanness. But I don’t think there’s an ulterior motive to Harken. It’s not like he’s trying to make you a better worker by doing this or that, he’s just a horrible horrible person, he enjoys being sadistic.

There’s a lot of people all around the world who know what it’s like to have a terrible boss, who is incredibly unkind, doesn’t let you off early, or maybe worse wouldn’t even let you go to a funeral. We’ve all known really terrible bosses, I’ve had terrible bosses. For me I try very hard in the jobs that I have where I am the boss to not be a terrible boss, but it’s really fun to come and be able to do a movie where you can get that out of your system (laughs).

The three friends are so dim in this film….

Kevin Spacey: They are the stupidest people you’ve ever watched in your life. What’s interesting is that Jason Batemen normally is smart, but somehow being saddled next to these two he becomes remarkably stupid in this film (laugh). They just make the worst decisions ever. You can see that they had such a great time together, they worked so well together that literally every scene….I can only imagine the number of choices Seth Gordon had to try to decide which ones to use, they’re just very very funny together. I saw the film, I laughed really from top to bottom.

How was it working alongside Julie Bowen?

Kevin Spacey: We decided to push her completely because the great thing about Julie is that she’ll go anywhere. She is very very funny, a complete loose cannon. I still think a part of my jaw has not fully healed from a scene where…literally we were just improvising, where I just said smack me, and she did (laughs).

What interested you in ‘Horrible Bosses’? How did it stand out from other scripts you’ve read?

Colin Farrell: It was fun on the page, one thing that stands out after 12 years of reading scripts was that it made me laugh out loud. I had 4 or 5 real belly laughs on my couch at home, which doesn’t happen very often when reading comedies, I’ve found. Through the years I just haven’t found many of them funny. This was kind of crass, and it was without apology. At the same time there was some really well observer behavioural stuff, it was nicely topical. It was fun more than anything, continuing from the enjoyment I had reading it, getting to meet Seth Gordon and designing the character of Bobby Pellit was a riot.

Your character is hilarious, how does he link within the story?

Colin Farrell: I play the son of Jason Sudeikis’ boss, who’s played by Donald Sutherland, who is nothing but benevolent and incredibly kind. And unfortunately very dead after the first scene. My character takes over the reigns. It’s particularly the relationship between Jason’s character, Kurt, and Donald Sutherland as my father that has caused my character, personally so much consignation over the years. So when Donald’s character is out of the picture and I take over the reigns of the company, it’s one of the classic cases of it’s all gonna burn (laughs), really fast.

How do you see your character Bobby Pellit?

Colin Farrell: As far as he’s concerned he has complete autonomy in the world he lives in, complete autonomy. If he’s not the boss, which he becomes when his father dies, even before that he’s the bosses son. So with him he feels like nobody’s gonna f*ck with him, he can do what he wants. He thinks he’s Gods gift to women, Gods gift to intellect, Gods gift to humour, Gods gift to the club scene, he just really thinks he’s Gods gift to everything that is imaginable (laughs). And he’s really not, he’s really sad and kind of pathetic, tragic, and lonely (laughs), and miserable. But he has no idea himself that he is. With all of that one on one psychology stuff going on there was just a plethora of stuff to play with, it didn’t feel like there was any way to do it wrong, it felt like we could do variations on the one theme, that Seth Gordon seemed to understand, as I understood, or I understood it as Seth seemed to understood it. I just had complete free range to just go all over the place.

How was working with director Seth Gordon and opposite Jason Sudeikis?

Colin Farrell: I had complete licence with Bobby, I just had complete licence to be as pathologically f*cked up as I could possibly be (laughs). Seth Gordon was really cool with it, he was giving great direction. It was fun, just fun allowing yourself to be as free as possible, be as in the moment. I had a great time playing with Jason Sudeikis, he’s quick as a whip. It was such a blast.

When you were first approached for this role, what your initial reaction? How was it to play a person like this? It’s a character we’ve never seen you play before.

Jennifer Aniston: I read the script first, page after page after page it was like “yes, yes, yes, where do I sign up?” That was sort of the fun thing, getting to take these little detours, explore different parts of myself, it was so fun, to put her on every day, to feel completely uninhibited. I had never been asked to play a character like this. I just jumped at it immediately, I read it and there was no fear with the dialogue or the situations, it was outrageous and fun.

How much freedom did Seth Gordon let you have with her?

Jennifer Aniston: So much freedom, the raunchier the better (laughs). He would just laugh and laugh, it was such a fun set, it was so outrageous. With a comedy like this you can’t halfway be horrible, you’ve got to be horrible. You have to commit to the devience of it all, that’s what we did, it was great!

The film has some hilarious moments, what is the secret of keeping a straight face when you’re working on a project like this?

Jennifer Aniston: You don’t, there’s no secret (laughs). It’s not possible, you just laugh a lot. You laugh a lot, you just have to do more takes. Honestly is wasn’t so hard for me, shockingly I didn’t get the giggles as much on this one as much as I have done in the past on other ones. Because you’re not going off on the script so much, you’re really sticking to the script because it’s so specific. It’s the improvisation and stuff that comes out of no where that can kind of set you into a major giggle fest.

You work with Jason Sudeikis and Jason Batemen again on this, what’s it like working with those guys?

Jennifer Aniston: I’ve known them for so long, they’re like brothers, they’re so good, they’re so fun. I just feel like I’m really really lucky, working with these guys while they’re in their prime, they’re so awesome.

You must learn so much every time you work on a movie. Has there been anyone in particular who’s been good teacher, especially with comedy?

Jennifer Aniston: Every film I’ve been on there’s always people I learn so much from. I really have been so lucky to work with so many great cast members, who are not all about themselves, who like to collaborate. Charlie Day is so great for instance, you get to work off of him and his energy, then with this movie I just done called ‘Wanderlust,’ which is a huge ensemble piece with great great actors. I’ve always loved working on an ensemble, working off of great characters.
