Feb 10th
This poster, promoting the Tim Burton Expo at La Cinematheque Francaise, has provided us with a new look at Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins in Burton’s forthcoming ‘Dark Shadows.’ The poster is one in a series promoting the event. Barnabas Collins was an 18th century gentleman, a businessman just before the Revolutionary War, who was transformed against his will into a vampire and buried in a tomb for two centuries. After he finally emerges, uncovered by construction workers in the year 1972, he seeks out his descendants — as well as some long-ago foes and a possible lost love. Alongside Johnny Depp, ’Dark Shadows’ stars Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath. The film opens in cinemas May 11th – look out for a trailer soon. Source: Bleedingcool.
In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Two More Clips From ‘The Rum Diary’ – Starring Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart & Amber Heard
Oct 20th
Film District has released two more clips from Bruce Robinson’s (Withnail and I) Johnny Depp-starring adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s ‘The Rum Diary.’ The story centers on itinerant journalist Paul Kemp (Depp), who moves to Puerto Rico and eventually discovers his voice as a writer and his integrity. From the looks of the trailer expect ample alcohol-fueled outrageousness to ensue on his journey! ‘The Rum Diary’ also stars Aaron Eckhart, Amber Heard, Michael Rispoli, Richard Jenkins and Giovanni Ribisi. The film is set for release October 28th in the US, and November 4th in the UK.
“The Rum Diary” tells the increasingly unhinged story of itinerant journalist Paul Kemp (Depp). Tired of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local San Juan newspaper run by the downtrodden editor Lotterman (Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked lifestyle of the late ‘50s version of Hemingway’s “The Lost Generation,” Paul soon becomes entangled with a very attractive American woman, Chenault (Heard) and her fiancée Sanderson (Eckhart), a businessman involved in shady property development deals. It is within this world that Kemp ultimately discovers his true voice as a writer and integrity as a man.
