THR bring word that Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg - who two starred opposite each other in 2009′s ‘Adventureland’ - are teaming up for ‘American Ultra,’ an action comedy from Nima Nourizadeh, the director of the surprise hit comedy ’Project X.’ Max Landis, who wrote the hit sci-fi found-footage movie ‘Chronicle,’ penned the script for ’American Ultra.’
Jesse Eisenberg will play an unmotivated stoner named Mike, who lives with his girlfriend Phoebe (Kristen Stewart) in a small, sleepy town. One night, their lives take an unexpected turn when Mike’s past comes back to haunt him, and he becomes the target of a government operation set to wipe him out. ‘American Ultra’ is set to begin shooting in April 2014.
Deadline bring word that Drake Doremus is casting up his next film ‘Equals’ for an early 2014 start, and is reportedly eyeing Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult to be the young couple that anchors this science fiction tale penned by Nathan Parker (Moon). Doremus talked up the project while doing press for ‘Breathe In,’ the most recent film he helmed that stars his ‘Like Crazy’ heroine Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce and Amy Ryan. Expect more news about ‘Equals’ shortly.
Paz Vega Joins Jeremy Renner In ‘Kill The Messenger’; Peyman Moaadi Joins Kristen Stewart In ‘Camp X-Ray’
The Hollywood Reporter bring word that Paz Vega is set to join Jeremy Renner in ‘Kill the Messenger,’ the upcoming adaptation of the true-life drama book by Nick Schou. Michael Cuesta, who has helmed episodes of ‘Homeland’ and ‘Dexter,’ is directing the picture.
‘Kill the Messenger’ tells the true story of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb, who through his reporting exposed the CIA’s involvement in helping Nicaragua’s Contra rebels import cocaine into California during the 1980s. The agency then tried to discredit him, which ultimately led to his “committing suicide,” though with two bullets in his head. Paz Vega will play the girlfriend of a “wealthy dealer who is in jail and hopes that Webb can get him out”. The production plans an August start in Atlanta.
Deadline bring word that Kristen Stewart has committed to star in back-to-back projects shooting this summer. Reportedly she will star in ‘Camp X-Ray,’ a politically charged drama written and directed by Peter Sattler, and she will follow that up by starring in the Olivier Assayas-directed ‘Sils Maria.’
In ‘Camp X-Ray,’ Kristen Stewart will play a young soldier “who escapes her suffocating small town by joining the military, only to find that she isn’t going for a tour of duty in Iraq as she hoped. Instead, she’s sent to Guantanamo. Met with hatred and abuse from the Muslim men in her charge, she forges an odd friendship with a young man who has been imprisoned at Gitmo for eight years.” Production begins late summer.
Variety are reporting that Will Smith is in talks to star
alongside Kristen Stewart in Warner Bros. Pictures’ con artist/heist film , ‘Focus.’ Variety’s sources reveal that Smith has been weighing the film for some time, and has officially committed to joining the pic. Written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who helmed ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love,’ ‘Focus’ follows an inexperienced female con artist who teams up with a more seasoned male one. Smith will next be seen on the big screen in ‘After Earth’ this summer.
UPDATE: Variety have updated their story by adding that Kristen Stewart was attached to star in the film but when Will Smith became engaged in the project, Stewart fell off with the feeling that the age difference between the two would be too large a gap. Expect more news about ‘Focus’ soon.
Variety are reporting that Kristen Stewart is set to join the cast of Steven Shainberg’s comedy drama ‘The Big Shoe.’ Elizabeth Banks is also confirmed for the cast alongside Jim Sturgess. The film, the directors first feature outing since 2006′s ‘Fur,’ is described by Shainberg as combining eroticism and humor in the same vein as his 2002 film ‘Secretary.’
‘The Big Shoe’ follows a show designer (Jim Sturgess) whose family want to use his designs to make mass-produced knock-offs for fast profit. The family hires a muse (Kristen Stewart) and a psychotherapist (Elizabeth Banks) to lure him back to work when he breaks free from the family. Andrew Lazar’s Mad Chance Productions will produce the film, which is penned by Steven Shainberg and Mickey Birnbaum. Filming is set to begin June 17th.
