First Look At Ralph Fiennes’ Charles Dickens & Felicity Jones In ‘The Invisible Woman’

The good folks over at Empire have unveiled these first looks at Ralph Fiennes and Felicity Jones in the period-drama ‘The Invisible Woman.’ The film is Fiennes second as actor/director following the critically acclaimed ‘Coriolanus.’ Fiennes and Jones star alongside Kristin Scott Thomas, Michelle Fairley, and Tom Hollander. Both Fiennes and Scott Thomas were Oscar-nominated for their performances as lovers in Anthony Minghella’s epic ‘The English Patient,’ which bagged nine Oscars in total.
Adapted by Abi Morgan (Shame, The Iron Lady) from Claire Tomalin’s acclaimed biography, the film tells the true story of the secret love affair between Charles Dickens and his mistress Nelly Ternan. Fiennes will star as Dickens, Felicity Jones (Like Crazy, Hysteria) will play Ternan and Scott Thomas, her mother Mrs Ternan. Nelly and her family are initially drawn into Dickens’ world when they take part in one of his theatre productions but Jones’ character soon becomes the focus of the writer’s passion. However, she must lead a life of secrecy and invisibility in order to protect the infamous writer’s reputation. Fiennes will also be seen as Magwitch in Mike Newell‘s adaptation of Dickens’ ‘Great Expectations’ later this year.

Screen Daily report that production is underway on Ralph Fiennes’ period-drama ‘The Invisible Woman.’ Filming will take place in Kent and in and around London until the end of June on Fiennes’ second film as an actor/director following ‘Coriolanus.’ Fiennes will direct and star alongside Kristin Scott Thomas and Felicity Jones. While ‘Bel Ami’ is out now in the UK, Magnolia Pictures has today announced a June 8th US release date for the adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel. Directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, the film stars Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Holliday Grainger, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci, and Colm Meaney. ‘Bel Ami’ is the story of Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson), who travels through 1890s Paris, from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession.
