My Top 10 Films Of 2010
Dec 31st
I’m going to be totally honest and concede that I’m completely useless at compiling lists. Reason one: I’m always changing my mind. Reason two: Me preferring one film over another depends entirely on my mood. Reason three: I’m lazy. Reason four: Because I am. So without further ado here’s what I consider to be the 10 best films of 2010. (Please note these are the films I have seen in 2010, I know a couple of them aren’t released in the UK until 2011)
1. Blue Valentine
Blue Valentine is unquestionably the most beautifully heartrending film I’ve watched in a long, LONG time. It has it’s fair share of excruciatingly painful to watch moments, however in equal measures it’s full of humour, warmth and charm. Both Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams give ridiculously multi layered and human performances. Beautiful and brutal in equal measures, writer-director Derek Cianfrance I salute you!
2. Black Swan

Natalie Portman has never been better and Darren Aronofsky further cements his place as one of the best directors working today with Black Swan. The movie is on all counts breathtaking. You won’t see a more hauntingly enchanting film this year. No film commanded my attention as much as this did, I was spell bounded the whole time.
2010 MTV Movie Awards Winners
Jun 7th
Just from looking at the winners of this years MTV Awards I’m pretty sure this show must be either made solely for teenage girls, or it’s just full of sh*t. I’m happy The Hangover was recognised, I loved that film, but WTF man – Twilight winning so many awards! From when an audience has this reaction to a film – omg omg omg omg EDWARD IS SOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOT, I’m team Edward <3<3<3<3 luvluvluvluvluv……..I have no interest in that film, on a interest scale of 1 to 1232324424, I have 0. From looking at the Best Male Performance category alone I have lost faith in humanity!

2010 Bafta Nominations Announced
Jan 21st

The nominations are pretty good to be honest, I wasn’t a massive fan of An Education, I did think Carey Mulligan’s performance was great though. All in all it’s a pretty good list, it’s good to see Christian McKay get a nomination for Me & Orson Welles, hopefully (even though it’s probably a long shot) he will get some Oscar love as well. An Education, Avatar and The Hurt Locker lead the pack with 8 nominations each, District 9 has 7 nominations while Inglorious Basterds and Up In The Air both have 6. The awards takes place at London’s Royal Opera House on 21 February.

Dec 7th

The Duncan Jones science fiction thriller Moon was the big winner of the BIFA’s last night by winning the Best Independent Film Award and with Jones winning the Best Debut Director. I can’t really complain with the winners to be honest with you, they seem pretty spot on to me, Tom Hardy was brilliant in Bronson, Mugabe and the White African was one of the most moving documentary’s I’ve ever seen, In The Loop was hilarious and I thoroughly enjoyed Fishtank.
