Writer-director-star George Clooney’s ‘The Monuments Men’ has been bumped to early 2014. The LA Times reports that Clooney needs more time to complete the film, with the Oscar winner saying, “We just didn’t have enough time … If any of the effects looked cheesy, the whole movie would look cheesy. We simply don’t have enough people to work enough hours to finish it.”
While the 2014 release takes ‘The Monuments Men’ out of contention for an Oscar this year, George Clooney doesn’t seem too upset, “All we’ve ever said, from the very beginning, is that we wanted to make a commercial, non-cynical piece of entertainment.” ’The Monuments Men’ was originally set for December 18th.
New Trailer For George Clooney’s ‘The Monuments Men’ – Also Starring Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett…
Columbia Pictures has revealed this second trailer for writer-director-star George Clooney’s ‘The Monuments Men.’ Co-written by Grant Heslov, the film’s stellar cast also includes Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and John Goodman. Based on the book ‘The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History’ by Robert M. Edsel, the film concerns the story of the “Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program, an Allied group, tasked with saving pieces of art and other culturally important items before their destruction by Hitler during World War II. ’The Monuments Men’ opens on December 18th.
The true action-thriller focuses on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.
First Clip & New Pic From Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Zero Theorem’ – Starring Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton, Matt Damon & More
This new image and first official clip has arrived online for Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Zero Theorem.’ Starring Christoph Waltz, Mélanie Thierry, Matt Damon, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Peter Stormare, Lucas Hedges and David Thewlis, ‘The Zero Theorem’ is set for 2014. You can always count me in for a new Terry Gilliam flick. The synopsis for ‘The Zero Theorem’ can be read below. Source: Collider.
The Zero Theorem is set in a world that seems right in Gilliam’s wheelhouse. Living in an Orwellian corporate world where “mancams” serve as the eyes of a shadowy figure known only as Management, Leth (Waltz) works on a solution to the strange theorem while living as a virtual cloistered monk in his home—the shattered interior of a fire-damaged chapel. His isolation and work are interrupted now and then by surprise visits from Bainsley, a flamboyantly lusty love interest who tempts him with “tantric biotelemetric interfacing” (virtual sex) and Bob. Latter is the rebellious whiz-kid teenage son of Management who, with a combination of insult-comedy and an evolving true friendship, spurs on Qohen’s efforts at solving the theorem. But these visits turn out to be intentional diversions orchestrated by Management to keep control of Qohen’s progress. Bob creates a virtual reality “inner-space” suit that will carry Qohen on an inward voyage, a close encounter with the hidden dimensions and truth of his own soul, wherein lie the answers both he and Management are seeking. The suit and supporting computer technology will perform an inventory of Qohen’s soul, either proving or disproving the Zero Theorem.
Matt Damon Joins The Cast Of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’; Eyes His Directorial Debut ‘A Murder Foretold’
The Playlist bring word that Matt Damon has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ in a small, undisclosed role. The character, like all of the roles in the film, is being kept under wraps, but sources close to the actor tell the outlet that he’ll only be shooting on the project for two weeks in Iceland (the entire shoot is scheduled for four months). Alongside Damon, the top-notch cast of ‘Interstellar’ also includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, David Gyasi, Wes Bentley, Mackenzie Foy, Timothée Chalamet, Topher Grace, David Oyelowo, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine.
‘Interstellar’ will be released in IMAX and 35mm theaters on November 7th, 2014. Paramount Pictures will distribute in North America, Warner Bros. Pictures internationally. Directed and co-written by Christopher Nolan (‘Inception,’ ‘The Dark Knight’ Trilogy), the production will travel the globe and utilize a mixture of 35mm anamorphic and IMAX film photography to bring to the screen a script based on the combination of an original idea by Nolan and an existing script by Jonathan Nolan, originally developed for Paramount Pictures and producer Lynda Obst. The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
Speaking to The Times Of India, Matt Damon touched upon the news that Ben Affleck has been cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman/Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s 2015 Superman Vs. Batman film. Damon and Affleck go back a long way. They both wrote the screenplay for and acted in ‘Good Will Hunting’ in 1997, which won them an Oscar for Best Screenplay. “Good Will Hunting is probably my favourite role, just because we wrote it, and it put both Ben and me on the map. That will also be the one role that’s nearest and dearest to my heart.”
Commenting on Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Matt Damon said, ”I think it will be great. It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it’s kind of funny. You know, he’s not playing King Lear. It’s Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw ‘Argo’ or ‘The Town,’ and all the work he’s been doing lately, it’s way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that.”
Following the news earlier this month that a fifth installment in ‘The Bourne Identity’ franchise is moving forward, Twitch are reporting that Universal Pictures is in simultaneous negotiations with both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for both to return to the Bourne franchise. The outlet are told Damon is only interested if Greengrass is directing so there are clearly a lot of moving parts here but if all comes together we could be seeing the return of the director and star of one of the strongest American action franchises of recent years.
A Jason Bourne-centric film would reportedly be developed in tandem with the recently announced fifth franchise entry, said to continue the adventures of Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross from last year’s ‘The Bourne Legacy.’ Cross was among a group of agents who took part in Operation Outcome. Medically enhanced to be smarter and physically superior, the agents were targeted for termination. Renner starred with Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton. The studio has reportedly hired Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes, Invictus) to pen that film. If Damon does decide to return to the franchise, a crossover between Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross could be in the works at some point down the line.
