Matt Reeves To Write/Direct A Film Based On The Short Story ’8 O’Clock in the Morning’
Apr 11th
Those consistent scoopmeisters over at Deadline reveal that Matt Reeves, the director of Cloverfield and Let Me In, will next write and direct a film for Universal Pictures based on the Ray Nelson short story 8 O’Clock in the Morning, which was also the basis for the cult classic 1988 John Carpenter film They Live.
The story follows a man who awakens one morning with the crystal-clear realization that we are surrounded daily by the presence of aliens that are controlling society. It is owned by Universal Pictures due to it being used as the basis for the classic Carpenter sci-fi horror. In that film, aliens were discovered through the use of special glasses. None of that is being used here, and apparently the film is not considered a remake.
Speaking to Deadline about the project Reeves revealed: “I saw an opportunity to do a movie that was very point-of-view driven, a psychological science fiction thriller that explores this guy’s nightmare,” There could be a desperate love story at the center of this. Carpenter took a satirical view of the material and the larger political implication that we’re being controlled. I am very drawn to the emotional side, the nightmare experience with the paranoia of Invasion of the Body Snatchers or a Roman Polanski-style film.”
For those still fiending hoping for a Cloverfield sequel Reeves said “it’s still on the drawing board.” His collaborators for that film have been pretty busy. Drew Goddard directed The Cabin in the Woods (which has been delayed due to MGM’s financial woes) and JJ Abrams has been busy with Super 8 and the upcoming Star Trek sequel. “If we crack a story we all love, we’ll do it,” said Reeves.
Christopher Nolan’s Short List Of Directors For The Superman Reboot ‘Man Of Steel’ Are Revealed
Sep 24th

According to Deadline Christopher Nolan – who has undertaken a godfather role for this project – has started meeting directors for the upcoming Superman reboot – The Man of Steel. The short list of directors is said to be Tony Scott (Unstoppable, Man on Fire), Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield), Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles), Duncan Jones (Moon), and Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen).
I personally would LOVE to see Duncan Jones direct this, Reeves and Snyder would also get me interested. Tony Scott hasn’t made a good film in years so I can’t see him being picked, and to be totally honest I haven’t seen enough of Jonathan Liebesman’s work to really give an informed opinion.
I’m happy Warner Bros are going in a new direction with Superman, for me Superman Returns was a giant piece of horse turd! Having Christopher Nolan on board has to help, his streak of great films is unparalleled at the moment- Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Inception.
Deadline reports that Nolan will submit his choice to the studio within the next few weeks. If you weren’t already aware Warner Bros have to get The Man of Steel made before 2013 or they lose the rights to the iconic character.
New TV Spot For Matt Reeves Let Me In – Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz & Richard Jenkins

If any film this year has won me over from being venomously against it when it was announced, to actually looking forward to it, it would be Matt Reeves Let Me In. Let Me In is a remake of the Swedish film Let The Right One In, which itself was an adaptation of the Swedish novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist of the same name. Let The Right One In is easily one of my favourite films of last few years, it’s emotionally involving, imaginative, haunting and one of the most deeply atmospheric films you will ever see. As a HUGE fan of the original I was dead set against an English speaking remake, yet despite all my fears from speaking to a number of people who have seen the film it looks like Matt Reeves has pulled it off. Everything I’ve heard has been great. Check out a new TV Spot for the movie below.
Let Me In, tells a terrifying tale about an alienated 12-year old boy named Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who is viciously bullied by his classmates and neglected by his divorcing parents. Achingly lonely, Owen spends his days plotting revenge on his middle school tormentors and his evenings spying on the other inhabitants of his apartment complex. His only friend is his new neighbor Abby (Chloe Moretz), an eerily self-possessed young girl who lives next door with her silent father (Oscar® nominee Richard Jenkins). A frail, troubled child about Owens’s age, Abby emerges from her heavily curtained apartment only at night and always barefoot, seemingly immune to the bitter winter elements. Recognizing a fellow outcast, Owen opens up to her and before long, the two have formed a unique bond.
Two New Clips & Posters From Let Me In – Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee & Chloe Moretz

Two new clips from Let Me In have made it’s way online. For those that don’t know, Let Me In is a remake of the Swedish film Let The Right One In, which itself was an adaptation of the Swedish novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist of the same name. Let The Right One In is easily one of my favourite films of last few years, it’s emotionally involving, imaginative, haunting and one of the most deeply atmospheric films you will ever see. When this remake was first announced I was a complete skeptic, I really don’t understand why people can’t just watch the original, subtitles aren’t hard that hard to follow! Yet after just watching this trailer I’ve got a little bit more hope, I’ve moved up to the level of skeptimistic! I really like the imagery and the two young actors – Kodi Smit-McPhee (who was brilliant in The Road) and Chloe Moretz (who stole the show in Kick Ass.) Fingers crossed this will do the original justice.
