On the promotional campaign for ‘This Means War,’ the The UK Press Association briefly spoke to Tom Hardy about playing Bane in the eagerly anticipated conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’: The actor has described the character as “brutal” and “heavy-handed”, but said that he had no problem separating himself from the role. ”I didn’t get into a dark place at all. A lot of dark characters are easy to have distance from, it’s something I feel comfortable with, I suppose.”

On the topic of wearing Bane’s mask, Hardy had the following to say: “Bane’s mask is tight, actually. I got used to it, but you get used to anything really, in time.”

The plot for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is being kept securely under lock and key, judging by the trailer and the previous two films I’d expect something E P I C. Alongside Tom Hardy as Bane, the film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is scheduled for release July 20th. Christopher Nolan directs the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Behind the scenes, “The Dark Knight Rises” reunites the director with several of his longtime collaborators, all of whom worked together on the “The Dark Knight.” The creative team includes director of photography Wally Pfister, who recently won an Oscar® for his work on Nolan’s “Inception”; production designer Nathan Crowley; editor Lee Smith; and Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). In addition, Paul Franklin and Chris Corbould, who both won Oscars® for the effects in “Inception,” supervised the visual and special effects, respectively. The music is composed by Oscar® winner Hans Zimmer (“The Lion King”).

In helming the film, Christopher Nolan is utilizing IMAX® cameras even more extensively than he did on “The Dark Knight,” which had marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAX cameras. The locations span three continents and include the American cities of Pittsburgh, New York and Los Angeles, as well as sites in India, England and Scotland.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Legendary Pictures. Slated for release beginning July 20, 2012, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

In this follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth,’ the new 3D family adventure ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ begins when young Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role from the first film) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist. It’s a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever. ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ stars Michael Caine as Sean’s grandfather, Alexander Anderson, and Kristin Davis as Sean’s mom, Liz Anderson. ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island 3D’ is set for release February 3rd in the UK and Febuary 10th in the US.

In the film, you have the dynamic of the three generations of guys with the grandfather, father, and son. Then we have your character and your father. Your character, Kailani, she’s sort of the mature one, especially with her father being Luis Guzman….

Vanessa Hudgens: Yeah (laughs). I kind of have to wear the pants in that relationship. Luis Guzman is hysterical, he was cracking me up. He’s such a riot, and also so random. Some of the things that would come out of his mouth, I would have no idea how he could think of these things. He is so much fun, our relationship in the film is so sweet. It’s definitely one of those things where Kailani thinks he’s embarrassing, and of course all kids go through a time where parents are the most embarrassing things, and they want nothing to do with them. But if you step back you realise that you’d be nowhere without them, and that you love them so much, and they love you just as much – if not more. Kailani, she’s a fun character because she’s tough, she takes care of those around her.

How did you keep a straight face working with Luis? I know parts of his performance were improvised.

Vanessa Hudgens: He would come up with stuff that was funnier than the actual lines. And he’d make up completely different side stories that weren’t even on the page, a lot of the stuff with him and Dwayne Johnson, he made their own little story and Dwayne played along (laughs). He brought a lot of life and spirit to the film. I was in hysterics much of the time, thankfully the crew were too so I wasn’t the odd one out.

At the beginning of the movie you have to hold Josh Hutcherson’s character, Sean, back…..

Vanessa Hudgens: Yes, at the beginning Kailani wants absolutely nothing to do with Sean. But slowly through the adventure that she gets taken on, against her will (laughs), she gets her eyes opened up to the adventure and mystery, and slowly falls for Sean. He does some saving as well, which always helps, he’s her hero. Josh is a great guy, he’s one of my best friends. We’d just have so much fun together. I’m really excited for him, he’s got ‘The Hunger Games’ coming out in a few months as well. He’s been doing this for a long time so he’s kind of a vet in his own right, even though he’s still so young. He’s so talented, he brings a lot to the table.

How was it working with Dwayne Johnson and Michael Caine?

Vanessa Hudgens: Dwayne is awesome, such a riot. He’s so driven, this guy has a schedule and he sticks to it. If our call time was 6am, he’d wake up at 4am to workout. I was constantly impressed by that, his work ethic. Also just some of his random skills, like playing the Ukulele and singing – I did not expect such a big guy to have such a sweet voice. He did his thing. Michael Caine, he’s a legend. Just to see him show up every day and see the enthusiasm he has, which matches if not exceeds mine, it was refreshing and inspiring. He doesn’t need to be doing this anymore, but he loves it so much that he continues too. He was a lot of fun as well, just listening to his stories, his singing, he was awesome. I’d sing with him everyday, we’d sing ‘Fireworks’ by Katy Perry, Beyonce, he was awesome.

Filming in Hawaii, what was that like?

Vanessa Hudgens: There was definitely no complaints! It was so stunning. I remember on set just running up and down the mountains singing and prancing and frolicking – I’m good at frolicking, I think (laughs). The cast was such an amazing draw, then filming in Hawaii, that’s a win win. Hawaii, so far that’s my favourite place I’ve ever worked in.

How was it for the both of you shooting in Hawaii? Dwayne, I know you spent some time there during you teenage years. And Josh, how was it compared to shooting on a sound-stage where much of the first film was shot?

Dwayne Johnson: For me, I was a punk kid running around there when I was 14, getting arrested, doing a lot of things I shouldn’t have been doing. To go from that kid to this man, to be able to have this movie pump millions of dollars into the economy, that was very special to me. The first movie, ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth,’ was a good movie that did great around the world. With this movie, we had an opportunity to do something better. One of the ways of making it better was taking it off the sound-stage and taking it to Hawaii, where you see the vastness, the lushness, the beauty of Hawaii. You have the mountains, the rainforest….there’s a texture that makes people go, “WOW!” Especially with the 3D. The scenery is a character in of itself.

Josh Hutcherson: Hawaii added a tonne to this movie. Not only visually and physically, but also emotionally. I think it has this sort of laid back “Aloha” spirit that the whole crew was able to tap into. Therefore, amidst the madness of running around from giant lizards on set, you get to step off and calm down, chill. When I heard we were shooting in Hawaii I was thrilled.

Dwayne, what was it about your character that interested you? He’s dealing with two generations on each side of himself….

Dwayne Johnson: That was a big part of it. It was one of the things that we felt, we all collectively felt it was important. In a movie like this you’re gonna have the spectacular 3D, dazzling effects, all these amazing things that are gonna wow people. At its core though, what’s important is that at the beginning you have to lay the foundation of me being a stepfather to my stepson. He may not like me, he may not want to bond with me, but Hank wants Sean to know that he loves him, and he’s gonna do his best for him. And that really speaks to me, I’m a proud daddy (laughs), family is important – it’s the most important thing to me. So with that established, you’re off to the races (laughs). You can go to mysterious island and through all the craziness. Josh Hutcherson is dynamite, I’d work with him again in a second. Then Michael Caine, sorry, SIR Michael Caine. He’s great, a brilliant actor, an icon and a legend. To be able to be able to spar with him, not being about physicality, but with whit, that was awesome! That clashing with him made things a lot more interesting, especially in that it was layered with humour.

Speaking to Luis Guzman, he was telling me about his improv….

Dwayne Johnson: Oh man (laughs). He’s a brilliant actor, an awesome guy. Some of the stuff….it gets to the point where some of the stuff is so funny, inappropriately funny, that it’s unusable (laughs). On set we were laughing, bending over laughing, but we knew we couldn’t use it. It would be quadruple X-rated! Way too dirty for the directors cut. It would be called Journey to the Centre of…….[coughs] something (laughs).

How was it for you Josh, playing Sean again? Then having Dwayne Johnson as your step-dad and Michael Caine as your granddad?

Josh Hutcherson: (Laughs) It was good, it was really fun. Sean was always a very adventurous guy, and he’s kind of been stuck in Ohio since the first film. He hasn’t been able to get out there and explore like he wants to. He’s sort of going crazy (laughs). He’s also dealing with the relationship with his step-dad. He has a lot to go through in this story. That was a lot more fun to me, there’s a lot more layers to him. With a movie like this, I can pull a lot of my own experiences and my own adventurous side and turn that on full blast. But then there was also elements with the stepfather relationship where I don’t have that issue, I had to really rely on the script for that. To help guide me to the right place.

Shooting with Dwayne and Michael, it was amazing. Dwayne is such a big physical guy that at first you could be easily intimidated. But then when you meet him he’s super down to earth, super nice, a really genuine person. He’s really a gentle giant, a manly gentle giant (laughs). The legendary Michael Caine, he’s pushing 80 years old but he had more energy than all of us. To see somebody like that at that age, who’s that accomplished, it just gives you a lot of confidence as a young actor to know that maybe one day I can be like that. Also just watching him, seeing how he rehearses his lines a tonne, he really knew his words and was able to play with them – almost orchestrate them. That was really cool.

Wireless Goodness has revealed a few details regarding the flying vehicle in the hugely anticipated conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ The craft, which has previously been referred to as the Batwing, is officially known as ‘The Bat.’ The news arrives through an FCC filing on the part of Hot Wheels and their upcoming set of toys to be released in tandem with the film.

The plot for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is being kept securely under lock and key, judging by the trailer and the previous two films I’d expect something E P I C. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is scheduled for release July 20th.

In addition to unveiling this weeks cover image, Entertainment Weekly has released five new photos from Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ providing us with new looks at Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, and Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon. The plot for the film is being kept securely under lock and key, judging by the trailer and the previous two films I can imagine something E P I C.

In the article Christian Bale opened up about his last day in the Batsuit: “My last day in the suit was also the last day of shooting for me. I was in New York, on top of a downtown skyscraper. The day began with Morgan Freeman and then ended with Anee Hathaway. I got to say goodbye from within the batcowl. it was very quiet, just a couple people there. But in the midst of it, I said, ‘Hold on a sec. Let me take a moment. This is it. I’m never going to have this claustrophobia again!’ So I had to pause. I had to.

“It’s a fascintating thing, that suit, don’t you think? And since I am generally within it, I actually don’t get to see it that often. Not the way that other people do. I can tell you the truth because I’m done with it: I felt immense pressure. And I think it’s a good pressure because you owe it to the films-and the people’s expectations-to make greatwork.”

Entertainment Weekly also spoke to Christopher Nolan talks Occupy Wall Street and Bruce Wayne’s wealth: Nolan denies reports that he wanted to shoot the protesters who encamped in Zuccotti Park last fall for the film. He and his collaborators conceived Rises more than three years ago, he notes, and obtained their New York shooting permits “nine months before Occupy Wall Street even existed.” Still, he’s not shying away from the implications. “The truth is, we wanted to shoot on Wall Street for the same iconic reasons that the Occupy movement chose that location: It is a symbol of American wealth and capitalism,” says Nolan, who hasjust begun editing the movie and cautions that the question of relevancy is premature. “In trying to tell as story of a self-made hero who is a multibillionaire, it raises certain issues that I do think are important in the world today, about the use and abuse of wat is Bruce Wayne’s only superpower” extraordinary wealth.”

Alongside Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ also stars Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. The film is scheduled for release July 20th. Check out the production notes for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ below.

I felt immense pressure. And I think it’s a good pressure, because you owe it to the films — and the people’s expectations — to make great work.”

Bale also speaks on Bane’s much talked about mask-muffled voice: “I think when people see the film, things will come into focus,” says the director. “Bane is very complex and very interesting and when people see the finished film people will be very entertained by him.”

The plot for the film is being kept securely under lock and key, judging by the trailer and the previous two films I can imagine something E P I C. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is scheduled for release July 20th, 2012.
Hero Complex recently caught up with Anne Hathaway to talk about her playing Catwoman/Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s hugely anticipated conclusion to his Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Speaking about her costume, the actress had the following to say: “I love the costume, because everything has a purpose, nothing is in place for fantasy’s sake, and that’s the case with everything in Christopher Nolan’s Gotham City.”

On the topic of Gotham City, Hathaway said: “Gotham City is full of grace. You look at Heath’s performance as the Joker, there was a lot of madness there but there was also a grace and he had a code there. There’s a lot of belief and codes of behavior in Gotham and my character has one, too. A lot of the way she moves and interacts with people is informed by her worldview. Chris has given us all such complex, defined, sophisticated worldviews that it’s just a matter of doing your homework and getting underneath the character’s skin.”

In regards to how other interpretations of the character have affected her performance, Hathaway revealed: “What’s come before doesn’t limit or even affect this new version. It doesn’t affect me because each Catwoman, and this is true in the comics as well, she is defined by the context of the Gotham City created around her. Catwoman is so influenced by Gotham and whoever is creating Gotham at the time. Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman was informed by Tim Burton’s Gotham and Eartha Kitt was informed by Adam West’s Gotham. You have to live in whatever the reality of the world is and whatever Gotham is.”

Hero Complex also offer up a scene description from the movie that features Hathaway as Catwoman, be warned though as it contains spoilers. If you are interested in the scene description you check it out here. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is scheduled for release July 20th, 2012. Christopher Nolan directs the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan. Check out some more recently released hi-res images from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ here.
