Sony Pictures has unveiled this first trailer for the acclaimed drama ‘Whiplash,’ which is lead by Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons. Directed and written by Damien Chazelle (Guy And Madeline On A Park Bench), ‘Whiplash’ is adapted from a short film that won Sundance’s jury award for fiction in 2013 (also written and directed by Chazelle).
‘Whiplash’ follows Andrew (Miles Teller), a first-year college student as he begins his quest to become the core drummer of the top jazz orchestra in the country. Under the direction of a prestigious but borderline abusive instructor named Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), Andrew would do anything to become a famous musician. His commitment is put to the ultimate test when the unrelenting and eccentric band professor all but drives him to madness. Fletcher’s extreme teaching methods rattle Andrew’s faith in drumming… and in himself. In the end, the struggle is only worthwhile if Andrew is really the one-in-a-million talent that Fletcher believes him to be. ‘Whiplash’ opens on October 10th.
Shooting since May, very little is currently known about Josh Trank’s adaptation of ‘The Fantastic Four’ other than it has a “grounded” tone and features a top-notch young cast in the form of Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Toby Kebbell as the iconic villain Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom. And while it’s very likely we’ll see something from ‘The Fantastic Four’ at next week’s San Diego Comic-Con, today we get some new info about the film via a new Michael B. Jordan interview with MTV.
Miles Teller & Emma Watson Circling ‘Whiplash’ Writer-Director Damien Chazelle’s Musical ‘La La Land’
Earlier this year Damien Chazelle’s critically acclaimed drama ‘Whiplash’ won the top prize at Sundance. Today, The Wrap bring word that Miles Teller will re-team with the writer-director on the musical ‘La La Land,’ with Emma Watson in talks for the female lead. ‘La La Land’ is described as a two-hander that follows a pair of dreamers — aspiring actress Mia, who’s lonely desperate to fit in, and cocky yet charismatic jazz pianist Sebastian — who fall in love in Los Angeles. However, the city that brought them together may tear them apart, as they soon discover that balancing love and art in such a cutthroat climate isn’t easy. A song-and-dance romance, ‘La La Land’ bills itself as a movie about big dreams, the big city and the kind of love that makes life feel like a musical.
It is being reported that Naomi Watts has joined the ensemble cast of ‘Insurgent,’ the second installment of the “Divergent” action adventure franchise. Set for a March 20th, 2015 release date, Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer, Suki Waterhouse and Jonny Weston also join returning cast members Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q and Mekhi Phifer. Watts will play Evelyn, the leader of the Factionless, in both ‘Insurgent’ and ‘Allegiant,’ Parts I & II.
Based on author Veronica Roth’s New York Times best seller, the film is being directed by Robert Schwentke from a screenplay by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing the film through their Red Wagon Entertainment banner along with Pouya Shahbazian. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are executive producing through their Mandeville Films banner along with Neil Burger and Barry Waldman.
Reg E. Cathey Joins ‘The Fantastic Four’ As Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan) & Sue Storm’s (Kate Mara) Father
Reg E. Cathey has reportedly joined the cast of Josh Trank and 20th Century Fox’s ‘The Fantastic Four’ reboot. Cathey will play Dr. Storm, the scientist father of Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan) and Sue Storm (Kate Mara). The Marvel superhero film will serve as a reunion for Cathey and Jordan, as Jordan got his start on ‘The Wire.’ Cathey also stars in ‘House of Cards,’ a series that also featured Mara.
The lead quartet for ‘The Fantastic Four’ is as follows: Miles Teller plays Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan plays Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Kate Mara plays Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell plays Ben Grimm/The Thing. Toby Kebbell is portraying the iconic villain Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom. Tim Blake Nelson co-stars.
Tim Blake Nelson Joining The Likes Of Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan & Toby Kebbell In ‘The Fantastic Four’
Tim Blake Nelson is said to be in final negotiations to join the cast of Josh Trank and 20th Century Fox’s reboot of ‘The Fantastic Four.’ If the deal makes, Nelson will play Harvey Elder, an eccentric and socially awkward scientist. In comics lore, Elder is actually the Mole Man, shunned by humanity and leader of a subterranean group of monsters known as the Moloids. Sources say the Mole Man will not appear in this movie but Elder’s appearance does set up the character to be the villain in future installments of the franchise.
The lead quartet for ‘The Fantastic Four’ has already been set, with Miles Teller cast as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Toby Kebbell is playing the iconic villain Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom.
