New Stone Poster – Starring Robert De Niro, Edward Norton & Mila Jovovich
Aug 23rd
Joblo have released this slick new poster for Stone, a prison-set psychological crime thriller that stars a badass looking Edward Norton as a convicted arsonist who looks to manipulate a parole officer (Robert De Niro) into a plan to secure his parole by placing his beautiful wife (Mila Jovovich) in the lawman’s path. From the previous trailers this film looks pretty shruggable, it doesn’t look particularly interesting, but then again it doesn’t look crappy. I have to take into consideration that Edward Norton and of course Robert De Niro are two of my favourite actors though, I’ll probably be seeing this on their names alone. Fingers crossed this movie is better that it’s trailers have suggested.
As parole officer Jack Mabry (De Niro) counts the days toward a quiet retirement, he is asked to review the case of Gerald “Stone” Creeson (Norton), in prison for covering up the murder of his grandparents with a fire. Now eligible for early release, Stone needs to convince Jack he has reformed, but his attempts to influence the older man’s decision have profound and unexpected effects on them both.
Stone skillfully weaves together the parallel journeys of two men grappling with dark impulses, as the line between lawman and lawbreaker becomes precariously thin. The film’s superb ensemble features Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element) as Lucetta, Stone’s sexy, casually amoral wife, and Golden Globe® winner Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under) as Madylyn, Jack’s devout, long-suffering spouse.
Set against the quiet desperation of economically ravaged suburban Detroit and the stifling brutality of a maximum security prison, this tale of passion, betrayal and corruption examines the fractured lives of two volatile men breaking from their troubled pasts to face uncertain futures.
Angelina Jolie Announces Upcoming Movie Set During The 1992-95 Bosnian War
Aug 23rd
Angelina Jolie has announced via the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees that she’ll be starring in an upcoming love story that takes place during the 1992-95 Bosnian War. This will see her return to the Serbian capital of Sarajevo after visiting the city this past weekend in her UN Goodwill Ambassador role.
Jolie has said that the film will explore the effect of the war on the relationship of a couple who meet on the eve of battle. “The film is a love story, not a political statement,” she added. “I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can.”
I like the sound of this, Jolie has some range as an actor outside of the action packed films she’s become known best for. Two examples that come straight to mind are for her roles in The Changeling and A Mighty Heart, in both those films she gave incredibly brave and powerful performances. There’s very little details about this movie, much speculation has spread online that this will be Jolie’s directional debut. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

To help us with our Monday morning blues the good folks over at Summit have released a dozen new image’s from director Robert Schwentke’s Red. I really like the look of this movie, it looks like it could be one of the most hilarious and maniacally action packed films of the year. The cast is stacked with class in Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, Karl Urban, Helen Mirren, James Remar, Julian McMahon, Brian Cox, Ernest Borgnine, Rebecca Pidgeon, and Richard Dreyfuss. Based on the cult D.C. Comics graphic novels by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, RED is an explosive action-comedy starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren. Frank (Bruce Willis), Joe (Morgan Freeman), Marvin (John Malkovich) and Victoria (Helen Mirren) used to be the CIA’s top agents – but the secrets they know just made them the Agency’s top targets. To stop the operation, the team embarks on an impossible, cross-country mission to break into the top-secret CIA headquarters, where they will uncover one of the biggest conspiracies and cover-ups in government history.

Three New Clips From The American – Starring George Clooney, Thekla Reuten & Irina Björklund
Aug 21st

Three new clips from The American have been released online giving us a closer look at Anton Corbijn’s forthcoming movie. I for one have been keeping a keen eye on this for a while now, it looks like an intelligent, finely tuned suspense thriller, I’m sure Corbijn’s accomplished photography skills will be put to good use on the visual side of things, and an impressive cast will lead to some fine performances. The American stars George Clooney as a hitman trying to do one last job in Italy before he retires, but – as they often do in movies – romantic entanglements complicate matters. The American is set for release September 1st in the US, and October 8th in the UK.
Academy Award winner George Clooney stars in the title role of this suspense thriller. As an assassin, Jack (played by Mr. Clooney) is constantly on the move and always alone. After a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, Jack retreats to the Italian countryside. He relishes being away from death for a spell as he holes up in a small medieval town. While there, Jack takes an assignment to construct a weapon for a mysterious contact, Mathilde (Thekla Reuten). Savoring the peaceful quietude he finds in the mountains of Abruzzo, Jack accepts the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli) and pursues a torrid liaison with a beautiful woman, Clara (Violante Placido). Jack and Clara’s time together evolves into a romance, one seemingly free of danger. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate. The American comes to theaters September 1st, 2010 and stars George Clooney, Thekla Reuten, Irina Björklund, Violante Placido, Paolo Bonacelli, Samuli Vauramo, Filippo Timi, Björn Granath. The film is directed by Anton Corbijn.
Two New Images From Due Date – Starring Robert Downey Jr & Zach Galifianakis
Aug 20th
Warner Bros. have released two new images from Due Date, Todd Phillips new buddy-comedy movie starring Robert Downey Jnr. and Zach Galifianakis. From what I’ve seen it looks like we’re in for a winner with this. I’m a big fan of Zach Galifianakis, any man who has a beard as godly as that get’s my automatic respect – I’ve got a strange/random hetrosexual love for epic beards. It’ll be good to see Downey Jr in a full blown comedy as well. I was a massive fan of Phillips previous film The Hangover, if this makes me laugh half as much as that film did, I’d be more than happy.
Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.) is an expectant first-time father whose wife’s due date is a mere five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan–on what turns out to be a cross-country road trip that will ultimately destroy several cars, numerous friendships and Peter’s last nerve.
Terrence Malick’s Upcoming Movie The Tree Of Life May Be Released By The End Of The Year
Aug 20th
Now this is news that brings a BIG smile to my face, Indiewire writer Anne Thompson recently talked to some sources within distributor Apparition about Terrence Malick’s highly anticipated film The Tree Of Life, and what she’s reporting is music to my ears. She believes that the film will hit before December 31st. But before you get too excited you have to bare in mind that just a few days ago, Thompson’s colleague at Indiewire and New York Film Festival committee member Todd McCarthy said this:
”Finally, of course, came word that Malick was still not done and it now seems clear the picture will not be opening this year. I can’t prove it, of course, and he’s supposedly set to start shooting a new film in Oklahoma in October, but I’m convinced we won’t be seeing ‘The Tree of Life’ until, at the earliest, the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Or perhaps it could turn up at the New York Film Festival a year from now.”
I really hope Anne Thompson’s sources are on the money, Malick is quite possibly my favourite director, his films are deeply philosophical, rich and exquisitely beautiful. Since his debut film Badlands in 1973, Malick has only made three other films (Days Of Heaven, The Thin Red Line and The New World). I’m supremely confident his fifth will be as amazing, if not more so than his previous work.
Thompson’s source also goes on to say that Brad Pitt’s and Jessica Chastain’s performances in the film are awards worthy and that; “It’s a mystical exploration of the meaning of life, a journey in which a microcosm of a family mirrors the world; the differences between man and woman, husband and wife, are mirrored against nature and grace. It will change the language of movies. It’s a real event. People will say ‘what the fuck is this?’” I’m as stoked as a goat!
