Ben Affleck In Talks To Join Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’?
Apr 8th
Deadline are reporting that Ben Affleck is in talks to join Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan in Baz Luhrmann’s stalled adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel ‘The Great Gatsby.’ If Deadline’s sources are on the money Affleck is in discussion for the role of Tom Buchanan, the husband of Daisy Buchanan (Mulligan). Affleck will have to work to fit this in. After starring in and directing The Town, he’s prepping to direct Argo, a film about the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.
In the other lead roles DiCaprio is set to play Jay Gatsby, while Tobey Maguire is pencilled in to play Nick Carraway, the novel’s narrator and best friend to Gatbsy. ‘The Great Gatsby’ is set to start shooting in Australia in August.

Hugh Jackman Talks ‘The Wolverine’ – “Everyone Is Still Pushing Forward To Getting It Done”
Mar 30th

After revealing footage from his upcoming robot-boxing drama ‘Real Steel’ at CinemaCon, Hugh Jackman spoke to EW about his X-Men spin-off ‘The Wolverine,’ which has seemingly been left in a pickle after Oscar nominated director Darren Aronofsky backed out of project just over a week ago, in addition to the recent tragedy’s in Japan:
“So now we’re out looking for a director,” Jackman shrugged. “We were pretty much ready to go. The script is fantastic — the best we’ve ever had, which is why it attracted Darren in the first place. His personal situation precludes him from doing it now, and I feel for him. But now we need to find a director.” Jackman wouldn’t cite any preference, but said the team is aiming for another prestige filmmaker, not just someone to yell “action” and “cut.”
“We’re not going to settle. We’re going to find a director as good as Darren, if not better. Well, as good,” Jackman said. “Everyone is still pushing forward to getting it done.” The actor did acknowledge a little impatience, especially since he’s growing weary of his protein-powered, muscle-building diet. “I can’t be eating too many more chicken breasts,” he groaned.
‘The Wolverine’ is still scheduled for a 2012 release date. The script has been written by ‘The Usual Suspects’ scribe Christopher McQuarrie. It’s going to be extremely hard to find someone with Aronofsy’s chops to jump on board for this film. Personally he’s one of my top 3 directors working today.
Director Darren Aronofsky Drops Out Of ‘The Wolverine’ – Bummer!
Mar 17th
My interest level for ‘The Wolverine’ aka Wolverine 2 has just plummeted 200%* (*that might be a slight exaggeration). The Hollywood Reporter bring word that Academy Award-nominated director Darren Aronofsky is no longer directing the Hugh Jackman starring flick - I guess it was to good to be true. In a statement Aronofsky said:
As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, who have been totally supportive throughout my work on the movie, it became clear that the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year. I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again.
20th Century Fox added: While we are of course disappointed that Darren can’t do The Wolverine, we also understand and respect his reasons. Having done both The Wrestler and Black Swan with Darren, we know he is an extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future. Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making The Wolverine. We will regroup and move forward aggressively.
Aronofsky is the man behind some of my favourite films of the last twelve years in The Wrestler, The Fountain (which starred Hugh Jackman), Requiem for a Dream, Pi and Black Swan. ‘The Wolverine’ comes to cinemas in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman.
Blade Runner Sequel/Prequel Update – Producers Would Love For Christopher Nolan To Direct
Mar 5th

As I’m sure you’re aware Warner Bros-based production company Alcon Entertainment recently purchased the rights to make both prequels and sequels to director Ridley Scott’s classic sci-fi epic ‘Blade Runner.’ Hot on the heels of this news i09 have spoken with producers Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, and Bud Yorkin about the projects. In the interview the group reveal that development plans are still in the early stages. Kosove also says that the “pie in the sky” choice for director is Christopher Nolan, who previously worked with the production company on Insomnia, “I think the methodology that Chris Nolan brought to ‘Batman’ is precisely what we aspire to whomever the filmmaker is…” The group also tease the return of Ridley Scott, “whether Ridley comes back and joins us or it’s someone else, it’s precisely what we aspire to with ‘Blade Runner’, that’s the template for us.”
To be frank I’m shamefully on the fence about these projects, one of the beauties of ‘Blade Runner’ is it’s ambiguity, how much it asks of it’s audience – the fact that until this very day, nearly 30 years after the films release there’s still so much aspects of it being debated. On the other hand I would love to see more of the ‘Blade Runner’ world, there’s so much more to explore.
‘Blade Runner’ was loosely based on the Philip K. Dick science fiction novel, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” The novel received three “authorized” sequels, written by Philip K. Dick’s friend K.W. Jeter, which were entitled “The Edge of Human,” “Replicant Night” and “Eye and Talon.” They continue the story of Rick Deckard and attempt to resolve many of the differences between the novel and the film.

Feb 28th
TFW2005 message boards bring us some scans from the latest issue of Empire Magazine (April), revealing the first look at ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’s’ Sentinel Granpa Prime and the new look Optimus Prime.
Sentinel Prime is described as “a big brother and mentor to Optimus Prime” and the article also reveals the name of a new character, a Decepticon Ferrari called Dreadbox – I was hoping the Ferrari was Hot Rod!
‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ comes to cinemas July 1st, 2011 and stars Shia LaBeouf, explosions, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, fast cars, Julie White, Ken Jeong, loud music, Kevin Dunn, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Alan Tudyk and John Malkovich. UPDATED: With clear cover image.
