Feb 23rd
Deadline have confirmed that writer/director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, United 93) will make his next film ‘Memphis’ about the events that lead up to Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination in Memphis, Tennessee. The film is said to centre on the final days of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the springtime of 1968, when he was attempting to help the city’s sanitation workers find common ground, just before his murder on April 4th of that year.
Universal Pictures will make Memphis, the drama about the assassination of Martin Luther King written and directed by Paul Greengrass. The picture is being produced by Scott Rudin, the Oscar-nominated producer of Best Picture candidates The Social Network and True Grit. Production on the film is slated to begin in June. It reunites the studio with Greengrass, who last made The Green Zone for Uni and who withdrew from making a fourth installment of The Bourne Identity. Even though that last picture came in at a high budget and didn’t succeed at the box office, Greengrass turned in two hit Bourne sequels and the Oscar-nominated United 93.
Sounds incredibly intriguing, a film to definitely look out for. I’m a Paul Greengrass fan and a massive Dr Martin Luther King Jr. buff so for me this film seems like it has a strong possibilty of being a good’en! Expect more ‘Memphis’ news soon.
Paul Greengrass To Write & Direct A Dr Martin Luther King Jr Film Entitled ‘Memphis’
Jan 13th
Vulture have reported that Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, United 93) is planning to make his next film about the events that lead up to Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination in Memphis, Tennessee. According to the article Greengrass has already wrote the script – entitled ‘Memphis,‘ the film is said to centre on the final days of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in the springtime of 1968, when he was attempting to help the city’s sanitation workers find common ground, just before his murder on April 4th of that year.
‘Insiders tell us that Greengrass wrote the movie — titled simply Memphis — based on his own original research, and that it looks at King’s life while trying to organize the city’s sanitation workers in spring of 1968, just before his murder on April 4 of that year. If so, that’d make for a much more human portrayal of King than some might expect: By the spring of 1968, King’s personal and professional lives were in disarray: His marriage was faltering; he was chain-smoking, boozing, and packing on the pounds. King’s outspokenness on the Vietnam War cost him his relationship with President Johnson, and his newfound interest in labor organization and the urban poor put him on the fringes of the rising Black Power movement.’
Sounds incredibly intriguing, a film to definitely to look out for. I’m a Paul Greengrass fan and a massive Martin Luther King buff so for me this film seems like it has a strong possibilty of being a good’en!
Green Zone Trailer – Matt Damon And Paul Greengrass
Oct 28th

Been looking forward to this for a while now, was pissed it got pushed back! the three films I was looking forward to this year (Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life, Scorsese’s Shutter and this) were all delayed to a bloody 2010 release, Green Zone now has a release date of March 12th, 2010. Paul Greengrass director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum re teams with Damon for Green Zone, Damon stars as Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, a rogue U.S. Army officer who must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil before war escalates in an unstable region. Is does look a bit Bourne’esque but I give that a pass I’m a sucker for intelligent action films!
About a pair of CIA agents (Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear) on the trail of Weapons of Mass Destruction and a foreign correspondent following their mission. Inspired by “Imperial Life in the Emerald City.” Green Zone is directed by Paul Greengass of Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum as well as Bloody Sunday and United 93. The script was written by Brian Helgeland, of L.A. Confidential, Conspiracy Theory, Mystic River, and Man on Fire previously. This is loosely based on Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s non-fiction book The Imperial Life in Emerald City.
