New Poster For Winter’s Bone
Aug 16th
I was fortunate enough to watch Winter’s Bone a few months back now, the film is an absolute triumph. It’s dark, haunting, and yet still somehow hopeful – it’s powerful stuff! Jennifer Lawrence (seen above in the beenie) in the lead role is astonishing, if she doesn’t recieve at least an Oscar nomination I’ll be gobsmacked. If you like a slice of ‘whodunit’ and ‘coming-of-age’, this film is a MUST. Winter’s Bone is released in UK cinemas September 17th.
Winner of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize and Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award, this tense, naturalistic thriller follows 17-year-old Ree Dolly as she confronts the local criminal underworld and the harsh Ozark wilderness in order to to track down her father, who has put up the family homestead for his bail. Featuring a star-making performance by Jennifer Lawrence, Winter’s Bone is sure to be one of the most-critically acclaimed films of the year.
Love & Other Drugs Trailer – Starring Jake Gyllenhaal & Anne Hathaway
Aug 13th
This trailer suffers from a severe case of showingtoomuchitus. It looks decent though, not exactly my cup of tea, but it looks like it could be pretty charming and romantic. I’ve always got time for Jake Gyllenhaal, director Edward Zwick has made some gems as well in Glory, Legends of the Fall, Courage Under Fire, The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond and Defiance. Love And Other Drugs is based on Jamie Reidy’s 2005 book “Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman”. The film centres on a lothario salesman (Gyllenhaal) who begins a relationship with a woman who has Parkinson’s (Hathaway) whom he meets on one of his sales calls. Their love story plays out in the political and social context of the time. Judy Greer, Jaimie Alexander, Hank Azaria, Oliver Platt, Gabriel Macht and George Segal co-star.
Five Great New Images & Trailer From Monsters
Aug 13th
I’m so psyched for this, a thought provoking film that will grab me by my eye balls – it looks stunning! Monsters is gearing up to be one of my foremost cinematic experience’s of 2010, it looks like a corker. It came out of nowhere for me as well, it wasn’t even on my radar until I started hearing glowing response’s from screenings at both Cannes and SXSW. Monsters is hitting cinemas October 29th 2010 in the US and November 12th 2010 in the UK. Check out the trailer and poster here.
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life form began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures”…… Our story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.

Ben Affleck’s The Town Poster – Starring Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm & Affleck Himself
Aug 12th
Right off the bat I have to admit I’m a complete sucker for heist/bank robbery movies. Gritty crime drama‘s are right up my alley. The fact that this has a cracking cast and I really like Ben Affleck as a director only adds to my anticipation, his directorial debut Gone Baby Gone was one hell of a movie, it was gripping from start to finish. The Town has a September 17th release date in the US, not sure of a UK release date yet.
Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) is an unrepentant criminal, the de facto leader of a group of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves in stealing what they want and getting out clean. With no real attachments, Doug never has to fear losing anyone close to him. But that all changed on the gang’s latest job, when they briefly took a hostage–bank manager, Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). Though they let her go unharmed, Claire is nervously aware that the robbers know her name… and where she lives. But she lets her guard down when she meets an unassuming and rather charming man named Doug…not realizing that he is the same man who only days earlier had terrorized her. The instant attraction between them gradually turns into a passionate romance that threatens to take them both down a dangerous, and potentially deadly, path. The film co-stars Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Pete Postlethwaite, and Chris Cooper.
New Poster For The Tempest – Starring Helen Mirren, Russell Brand, Djimon Hounson & Alfred Molina
Aug 11th
Yahoo have released this great new poster for Julie Taymor’s upcoming Shakespeare adaptation, The Tempest. This film looks like it could be a gem, I love this poster, it’s full of penetrating ‘don’t mess with me’ gazes. The cast is pretty stacked full of talent with Helen Mirren, Russell Brand (random), Djimon Hounson, David Strathairn, Felicity Jones, Chris Cooper, Alfred Molina, Alan Cumming and Ben Wishaw. The Tempest is a modern-day interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic play of the same name, adapted for the screen by Taymor herself – who has adapted Shakespeare once before with Titus……I’m stoked as a goat!
Synopsis: In Julie Taymor’s version of The Tempest, the gender of Prospero has been switched to Prospera. Going back to the 16th or 17th century, women practicing the magical arts of alchemy were often convicted of witchcraft. In Taymor’s version, Prospera (Mirren) is usurped by her brother and sent off with her four-year daughter on a ship. She ends up on an island; it’s a tabula rasa: no society, so the mother figure becomes a father figure to Miranda (Jones). This leads to the power struggle and balance between Caliban (Hounsou) and Prospera; a struggle not about brawn, but about intellect.
Fantastic New Poster For Monsters
Aug 11th
I try not to throw around the word ‘epic’ that much, it’s likely the most overused word on the internet, just in front of ‘fail’. To make matters worse, you can combine them together to form the equally overused ‘epic fail.’ But yes this film looks EPIC, a bit District 9 like, but pretty epic all the same. Monsters received a glowing response at both Cannes and SXSW, and for those that don’t know the film was shot with just a five person crew and a cast of two. Director Gareth Edwards definitely seems one for the future. Monsters is hitting cinemas October 29th 2010 in the US and November 12th 2010 in the UK.
