Fox Searchlight Acquire Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’; New Plot Details Revealed

Screendaily bring word that Fox Searchlight has acquired worldwide rights to Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ follow-up, ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel,’ and has come on board as co-financier. At this moment in time, the studio is understood to be exploring release dates either in late 2013 or 2014. ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ marks the first time Fox Searchlight has distributed an Anderson film since 2009’s ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox.’ It also released ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ in 2007. Anderson has said that the story, set 85 years ago in a Hungarian hotel, is partly inspired by the witty films of Billy Wilder and Ernst Lubitsch (The Shop Around the Corner).
The stellar cast for ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ includes Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, Harvey Keitel, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Saoirse Ronan, Tom Wilkinson, Mathieu Amalric, F Murray Abraham, Bob Balaban and Tony Revolori. The new plot details revealed in Screendaily’s report is as follows: “The Grand Budapest Hotel tells of a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars and his friendship with a young employee who becomes his trusted protégé. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the battle for an enormous family fortune and the slow and then sudden upheavals that transformed Europe during the first half of the 20th century.”
Saoirse Ronan Joins Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’

Variety bring word that Saoirse Ronan has nabbed the female lead in Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel.’ The director has said that the story, set 85 years ago in a Hungarian hotel, is partly inspired by the witty films of Billy Wilder and Ernst Lubitsch (The Shop Around the Corner). Ronan joins the likes of Ralph Fiennes, Jude Law, Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman in the pic.
Saoirse Ronan was nominated for an Oscar at the age of 13 for her supporting performance in ‘Atonement.’ She’ll next be seen in Andrew Niccol’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel ‘The Host,’ Kevin Macdonald’s ‘How I Live Now,’ Neil Jordan’s ‘Byzantium’ and Geoffrey Fletcher’s ‘Violet & Daisy.’ ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ will be both written and directed by Wes Anderson, with the filmmaker re-teaming with producers Scott Rudin and Steve Rales. Their most recent project, ‘Moonrise Kingdom,’ was a huge success both critically and at the box office this past summer. Look out for more details shortly.
New ‘Great Expectations’ Clip – Starring Jeremy Irvine, Ralph Fiennes & Helena Bonham Carter

MSN has set loose this new clip from Mike Newell’s big screen adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic ‘Great Expecations.’ Newell, BAFTA award winning director of ‘Four Weddings and A Funeral’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,’ directs a top-notch ensemble cast including BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Havisham, BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes as the convict Magwitch, Robbie Coltrane as Jaggers and newcomer Jeremy Irvine, fresh from his lead role in Steven Spielberg’s ‘War Horse,’ as Pip. They are joined by the likes of Ewen Bremner, Jason Flemyng, Sally Hawkins, Tamzin Outhwaite, David Walliams and Holliday Grainger as Estella.
‘Great Expectations’ follows Pip, a young orphan who’s given a chance to rise from his humble beginnings thanks to a mysterious benefactor. Moving through London’s class ridden world as a gentleman, Pip uses his new found position to pursue the beautiful Estella; a spoilt heiress he’s loved since childhood. Yet the shocking truth behind his great fortune will have devastating consequences for everything he holds dear. This adaptation of Charles Dickens’ acclaimed novel is produced by Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley, and written by acclaimed screenwriter and novelist David Nicholls (One Day). ‘Great Expectations’ is set for release November 30th in the UK through Number 9 Films/BBC Films.
