On the promotional campaign for ‘Underworld: Awakening,’ Len Wiseman opened up to Comingsoon about his upcoming action thriller ‘Total Recall.’ The filmmaker revealed that he’s turning in his director’s cut this Sunday;“I’m very close to handing over my cut. It’s going really well. The combination of mystery and emotion and action, it’s coming together. Colin [Farrell] is a large part of that and I’m really happy with him.”

Wiseman also shed some light on what he found the most surprising and challenging aspects of the material: “I think the complexity of the dual stories was the most surprising and challenging thing. When you see Total Recall, the [Paul] Verhoeven film you experience it, it’s finished. When you’re involved in diving into the material again and going back into the Philip K. Dick story, you realize there is so much to be discussed about the dual stories. There’s the reality story and there’s the fantasy element. They’re running parallel together, so you always have to keep those two alive. That’s the inherent nature of the concept and what makes the concept so cool. I will say, at the same time, this made all of the conversation I had with my cast fun. “Every little detail has to apply to both scenarios. My actors would ask, ‘So, in this scene, am I – because I know that I’m lying, because I’m the double agent – how well do I act? It sounds like a silly question, but do you want the other character to see through that or am I so good as a double agent that you would never suspect I’m the best buddy or the wife.’ It’s all of those little things. So, that’s my long way of saying the dual nature of the story was the best thing about this.”

Deadline are reporting that Kate Beckinsale has been offered one of the two female lead roles opposite Colin Farrell in Len Wiseman’s remake/reboot of ‘Total Recall.’ The two female leads in the original movie, Lori and Melina, were played by Sharon Stone and Rachel Ticotin respectively. Beckinsale certainly has a track record with the film’s director, Len Wiseman, as they’re married, and before that, worked together on the ‘Underworld’ films.

Both Cranston and Farrell are quality actors, this casting news gets my thoroughly unimportant important stamp of approval. Hollywood is excelling at remakes, I’m sure one day they would have rebooted and remade every memorable film from the past three decades, and I’m sure when that day comes they’ll be rebooting the reboots and remaking the remakes…….or even start producing remakequels!

Shocktillyoudrop recently spoke to Gareth Edwards, director and writer of the hit indie sci-fi/drama ‘Monsters’ about his upcoming Legendary Pictures Godzilla reboot:

“I’m a big fan,” Edwards tells Shock, palpably choosing his words wisely when it comes to talking about his latest endeavor. “I guess I will say I’m highly aware – and everyone involved is incredibly aware – of everyone’s opinions on what this film has to do and what it has to be. And no one will do anything but the right thing. Without addressing anything specific, everyone knows how important is to get it right.”

He can’t talk about the scripting process (he did reveal he’s not writing the film), however, he recalls his introduction to the long-running franchise. “My earliest memories was channel 4, they showed them every Friday night. As a kid I wasn’t quite sure about the dubbing, the English-dubbed versions. They threw me for a bit. I love science fiction and, well I call them B movies but they’re not, but I love ’60s and ’70s sci-fi. But these would come on and be dubbed and it would take my kid brain to adjust to the dubbing. It took me some time to get through that.”

I personally loved what Edwards did with Monsters, it was one of the most charming, visually stunning and all around thumbs up worthy films of 2010. What he done on that film was with an EXTREMELY tight budget (low six-figures), I’d love to see what he could produce with some more $$$$$’s. Godzilla is set for release 2012.
