Colin Farrell Offered The Lead Role In The Upcoming ‘Total Recall’ Reboot/Remake
Nov 14th
Variety have reported that Colin Farrell has been offered the lead part in Sony Pictures’ Total Recall remake/reboot. The project is said to be a ‘contemporized adaptation’ of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger genre classic, which was based on the Philip K. Dick story, “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale”.
Colin Farrell is a quality actor, this casting news gets my thoroughly unimportant important stamp of approval. Over the last few weeks Farrell had been rumoured to be in the running for the part along with Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender. Hollywood is excelling at remakes, I’m sure one day they would have rebooted and remade every memorable film from the past three decades, and I’m sure when that day comes they’ll be rebooting the reboots and remaking the remakes…….or even start producing remakequels!
Rhys Ifans Will Play The Lizard In The Upcoming Spiderman Reboot
Oct 14th

After Sony announced earlier week that Rhys Ifans would be cast opposite Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker/Spiderman) and Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) as an unspecified villain in the upcoming Spiderman Reboot. TheWrap have now reported that Ifans will in fact portray, none other than Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard. Kudos to me, my immense intuition guessed The Lizard because ‘my only hunch is that Ifans kind of looks like a lizard…..yes, that‘s the best I‘ve got!’ *Pats myself on the back*.
Rhys Ifans will play Dr. Curt Connors, better known as The Lizard, in Marc Webb’s “Spider-Man,” TheWrap has learned.
There had been rumors across the blogosphere that Sony was thinking of bringing back Venom for the franchise reboot, but that character will not be featured in the movie, two individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.
The Spiderman Reboot is to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Production will begin in December and the film will be released in cinemas in 3D on July 3, 2012.
Rhys Ifans Cast As The Villain In The Upcoming Spiderman Reboot
Oct 11th
Sony Pictures have put to bed all the rampant casting rumours by confirming that they have offered the villain role in the Spider-Man reboot to Rhys Ifans. The only thing that they’re keeping to themselves at the moment is which villain Ifans will actually be portraying. Possibilities include The Green Goblin, Venom, The Vulture and The Lizard – my moneys on The Lizard, my only hunch is that Ifans kind of looks like a lizard…..yes, that‘s the best I‘ve got! Sony Pictures go on to say:
“We have been very fortunate to attract some of the best actors working today to play the villains in the Spider-Man movies, and it is exciting to see that trend continue with Rhys Ifans. After seeing his performance in our upcoming film Anonymous, we’re in awe of his talent and think he’s the perfect choice to take on this role.”
Director Marc Webb chimes in with a few words about how the villain’s relationship to Spider-Man himself is the key to the character:
“What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys’ incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character.”
The Spiderman Reboot is to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. production will begin in December and the film will be released in theatres in 3D on July 3, 2012.
Emma Stone Cast As Gwen Stacy In The Upcoming Spiderman Reboot
Oct 6th
After much speculation Sony/Columbia Pictures have announced that Emma Stone (Easy A, Superbad, Zombieland) has been cast as the Gwen Stacy – not Mary Jane Watson as many presumed – the female lead in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot opposite Andrew Garfield, who’s playing Peter Parker/Spiderman. This casting choice gets my two thumbs up of approval, Stone is an extremely likeable and talented young actress. The fact that Mary Jane Watson isn’t the lead female character has me scratching my head though! Look out for this in cinemas July 3rd, 2012.
Director Marc Webb added, “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.”
Darren Aronofsky Also Reportedly Considered To Direct The New Superman Reboot – With Natalie Portman As Lois Lane?
Sep 28th
The LA Times have reported that Darren Aronofsky’s name has been thrown into the hat of directors considered for the upcoming Superman Reboot alongside Duncan Jones, Jonathan Liebesman, Matt Reeves, Tony Scott and Zack Snyder. For me Aronofsky has to be at the top of that list, he’s made some incredible films in his young career, which as he said when I interviewed him he has had little room to work budget wise. He’s seen as pretty much a lock for a Best Director nomination when awards season comes around for his latest movie Black Swan.
Moviehole have commented on this news piece further through a source who goes on to say that Aronofsky has “been talking about this for a while” and that they don’t think talks have “progressed beyond the suggestion of having Nat[alie Portman] be Lois. They wanted her first time around, this time they can get her – with Darren. But who knows where that’s at now”. Now that sounds good! I’d definitely buy Natalie Portman as Lois Lane. When they point out they wanted her first time around I assume they mean for the turd Superman Returns.
I’ve never been a fan of the awkward stranger from the planet Krypton. He’s always had too much power and too little personality for me. However even I am excited by the prospect of a Superman movie being directed by Aronofsky, Duncan Jones, Matt Reeves or Zack Snyder. Not to mention Christopher Nolan, the man with the best current streak of great films (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Inception) onboard undertaking a godfather role for the project.
Christopher Nolan’s Short List Of Directors For The Superman Reboot ‘Man Of Steel’ Are Revealed
Sep 24th

According to Deadline Christopher Nolan – who has undertaken a godfather role for this project – has started meeting directors for the upcoming Superman reboot – The Man of Steel. The short list of directors is said to be Tony Scott (Unstoppable, Man on Fire), Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield), Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles), Duncan Jones (Moon), and Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen).
I personally would LOVE to see Duncan Jones direct this, Reeves and Snyder would also get me interested. Tony Scott hasn’t made a good film in years so I can’t see him being picked, and to be totally honest I haven’t seen enough of Jonathan Liebesman’s work to really give an informed opinion.
I’m happy Warner Bros are going in a new direction with Superman, for me Superman Returns was a giant piece of horse turd! Having Christopher Nolan on board has to help, his streak of great films is unparalleled at the moment- Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Inception.
Deadline reports that Nolan will submit his choice to the studio within the next few weeks. If you weren’t already aware Warner Bros have to get The Man of Steel made before 2013 or they lose the rights to the iconic character.
