Bolstering my excitement for what is already rapidly becoming my most anticipated project currently in development, Deadline report that Ridley Scott is commited to make ‘The Counselor’ his next film after ‘Prometheus.’ The screenplay comes from one of my favourite authors, Cormac McCarthy, whose critically acclaimed books have been adapted into ‘No Country for Old Men, ‘The Road,’ and ‘All The Pretty Horses.’ ‘The Councelor’ is the Pulitzer Prize-winning authors first screenplay. Insiders are describing it as “No Country For Old Men on steroids.” While details are sparse, the story is said to follow a lawyer who gets embroiled in the drug trade, and ends up fighting for his life.

To further add to my excitement for ‘The Councelor,’ the publications sources point towards Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ star Michael Fassbender playing the title role. While a formal offer hasn’t been made, they believe there’s a high likelihood that the actor will star in the film. Scott is apparently eyeing a May 1st start date, and he is talking to a number of high-profile actors to take part in the film. Producer Steve Schwartz has said the following about the ‘The Counselor’: “Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with its sexual obsessions. It’s a masculine world into which, unusually, two women intrude to play leading roles. McCarthy’s wit and humor in the dialogue make the nightmare even scarier. This may be one of McCarthy’s most disturbing and powerful works.”

Deadline bring word that after revisiting his classic ’Alien’ with the upcoming ‘Prometheus,’ Ridley Scott is committing to direct and produce a new instalment of ‘Blade Runner,’ another one of his seminal and groundbreaking science fiction films. At this moment in time it’s unclear whether the film will be a sequel or a prequel to the 1982 film, or even if Harrison Ford returns.

To be frank I’m shamefully on the fence about this project, one of the beauties of ‘Blade Runner’ is it’s ambiguity, how much it asks of it’s audience – the fact that until this very day, nearly 30 years after the films release there’s still so much aspects of it being debated. On the other hand I would love to see more of the ‘Blade Runner’ world, there’s so much more to explore. Especially if Ridley Scott if helming the project.

‘Blade Runner’ was loosely based on the Philip K. Dick science fiction novel, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” The novel received three “authorized” sequels, written by Philip K. Dick’s friend K.W. Jeter, which were entitled “The Edge of Human,” “Replicant Night” and “Eye and Talon.” They continue the story of Rick Deckard and attempt to resolve many of the differences between the novel and the film. LOS ANGELES, CA, AUGUST 18, 2011—Three-time Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott is set to helm a follow up to his own ground-breaking 1982 science fiction classic “Blade Runner” for Warner Bros-based financing and production company Alcon Entertainment (“The Blind Side,” “The Book of Eli”).

Alcon co-founders and co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce with Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, along with Ridley Scott. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

The filmmakers have not yet revealed whether the theatrical project will be a prequel or sequel to the renowned original.

Alcon and Yorkin recently announced that they are partnering to produce “Blade Runner” theatrical sequels and prequels, in addition to all television and interactive productions.

The original film, which has been singled out as the greatest science-fiction film of all time by a majority of genre publications, was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1993 and is frequently taught in university courses. In 2007, it was named the 2nd most visually influential film of all time by the Visual Effects Society.

State Kosove and Johnson: “It would be a gross understatement to say that we are elated Ridley Scott will shepherd this iconic story into a new, exciting direction. We are huge fans of Ridley’s and of the original ‘Blade Runner.’ This is once in a lifetime project for us.”

Scott is represented by David Wirtschafter at WME and David Nochinson at Ziffren Brittenham.

Released by Warner Bros. almost 30 years ago, “Blade Runner” was adapted by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples from Philip K. Earth. Year 2058.

Archaeological digs in Africa reveal alien artifacts that humans were genetically engineered by a advanced alien race (space jockeys). These “Alien Gods” also terraformed Earth in order to make it habitable for their human creations. Amongst finds are coordinates to the Alien God’s home-world, to Paradise. Months later the Weyland Corp launch the spaceship PROMETHEUS and his crew, into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than light travel a few years later the PROMETHEUS enters the Zeta Riticuli star system. Humans are greeted by their makers, then transported further into space to a scary yet fascinating world. The Alien Gods are proud of their “children”, their first creation to reach such levels of intelligence.

As a reward they share bits of their astonishing bio-based technologies with the humans. But for one crew member of the Prometheus it’s not enough. In a treacherous act he steals the “bio-source code” to Terraforming, a technology at the origin of all Gods’ power, that could make humans equal to the gods. The Alien Gods may be scientists but are also ruthless conquerors, destroyers of worlds who will not accept humans as equals. They unleash on the escaping human crew their favorite bio-weapon, a creature used to “clean up” worlds before colonization. ThePlaylist have caught wind that the rumours surrounding Guy Pearce joining the cast of Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ are true. This is great news for me, I’m a big fan of Pearce. The Australian actor joins Noomi Rapace. Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall and Kate Dickie.

The Playlist has learned that Guy Pearce has joined “Prometheus” with reps for the actor confirming his involvement. There’s no word yet on what his role in the film is, but he’s joining an already solid cast in the film that both is and isn’t a direct prequel to “Alien”—essentially, it will take place in the same world with some connective DNA stringing the two films together, but how much more than that it will be remains to be seen.

Three weeks into his filming process for Ridley Scott’s forthcoming Alien movie ‘Prometheus,’ Michael Fassbender caught up with Hero Complex to talk about the hugely anticipated film – my personal excitement meter is officially set to ‘squeal like a Japanese schoolgirl’ for this flick!

The actor talked about creating his Prometheus character: “I feel I’ve got it at my fingertips, it’s there but challenging and, you know, I’m excited. I’ve got a few ideas that I’m running with and I think I’ve got a grasp on it but it’s always something that, organically, moving on its own course. I’m having a lot of fun with it. There’s a lot of interesting quirks and niches to him and I’m having a lot of fun exploring it.”

Fassbender also shed some light on working with Scott: “It’s great. He’s just so precise and fun and mischievous and just full of interesting and quirky ideas for the character. They come to you in passing but then he lets you run with it and there’s a lot of freedom there. I’m really just enjoying it and everything in general, the whole crew is so veteran and talented from all departments down, the camera, wardrobe, makeup, props, the works — you’ve got the cream of the crop and it’s an honor just to be allowed to be part of it.”

‘Prometheus’ will arrive in cinemas 30 years to the month after Scott’s ‘Blade Runner’ -  the director’s first sci-fi film since that classic starring Harrison Ford, Sean Young and Rutger Hauer. Fassbender talked about how ‘Blade Runner’ holds a special place in his heart: “It’s my favorite movie. I just love that movie. And really I love all the different versions, I just don’t care, I love that world and whatever you want to take from it you can take from it, nothing is fore-set in any way. I love that it’s a very feasible futuristic place, and again that quality that you’re in a thriller but you don’t know it. There’s always something at play and everyone has an agenda but none of it is really openly expressed.”

Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall  and Kate Dickie also star in the flick.

Already boasting a terrific cast in Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender,  Idris Elba, Sean Harris, and Kate Dickie ,The Daily Mail bring word that English actor Rafe Spall has also joined the film – Spall’s probably best know for his roles in Edgar Wright’s ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’. There’s no specifics at this moment in time regarding who Spall will portray.

In other ‘Prometheus’ news Noomi Rapace recently spoke to MTV on the set of Guy Ritchie’s ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ and opened up about her character in the Ridley Scott film:  “I’m jumping into that straight off of ['Sherlock Holmes 2']. My character’s name is Elizabeth Shaw, and I’ll step into her shoes in March and be her for six months or something. It’s quite a long shoot. It’s unbelievable.”

Talking about working with Ridley Scott the actress said: “It’s a great honor and I’m really excited … I’ve met him maybe seven or eight times and he’s so passionate. He really loves movies. He watches movies every night. He’s seen everything. We had a long chat on the phone — he’s in LA now — about my character. I have many ideas and he has many ideas, and now we’re starting to search and try to find her.”

The actress also spoke about the comparisons her character will surely receive to Sigourney Weaver’s iconic Ripley: “She’s definitely her own [character] … She’s a scientist and is very bright … She’s a believer. I think there are some similarities, but she’s very much her own.
