Empire has unveiled this new clip from Roland Emmerich’s upcoming political thriller ‘Anonymous.’ The film is based on the controversial idea that Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, wrote the plays that were attributed to William Shakespeare. ‘Anonymous’ looks like a complete departure from what we’ve come to expect from Emmerich. The director is best known for <del>obliterating cities</del> his disaster and action movies such as ‘Independence Day,’ ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ and ’2012.’ ‘Anonymous’ stars Rhys Ifans, Xavier Samuel, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Vanessa Redgrave, Derek Jacobi, Rafe Spall and Edward Hogg. Look out for the film in cinemas October 28th.

Set in the political snake-pit of Elizabethan England, Anonymous speculates on an issue that has for centuries intrigued academics and brilliant minds ranging from Mark Twain and Charles Dickens to Henry James and Sigmund Freud, namely: who was the author of the plays credited to William Shakespeare? Experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories surrounding the authorship of the most renowned works in English literature. Anonymous poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when cloak-and-dagger political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles hungry for the power of the throne were exposed in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

Columbia Pictures have liberated this debut poster for Roland Emmerich’s political thriller ‘Anonymous.’ The film is based on the controversial idea that Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, wrote the plays that were attributed to William Shakespeare. ‘Anonymous’ looks like a complete departure from what we’ve come to expect from Emmerich. The director is best known for <del>obliterating cities</del> his disaster and action movies such as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. ‘Anonymous’ stars Rhys Ifans, Xavier Samuel, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Vanessa Redgrave, Derek Jacobi, Rafe Spall and Edward Hogg. Look out for the film in cinemas September 30th. You can check out the trailer here.

Roland Emmerich director of 2012, Independence Day, Godzilla, Stargate and a bunch of other blockbusters, disaster and logicless films recently talked to MTV and the Latinoreview about a possible sequel to Independence Day. Independence Day is by FAAAAAAAAR Emmerich’s best film, it also also featured the best White House blow up scenes in a film!

MTV

“What we want to do in the next – it’s actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc,” he explained. “‘Independence Day’ was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that.”

So the plan is not just one sequel but two. And Emmerich has got a nifty title in mind: “‘ID4-ever,’ Part I and II maybe?” he suggested.

“There’s an idea,” “The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don’t know how many years ago this was—twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago—and just continue where it ended.”

Latinoreview

Dean Devlin and I are still set to make a sequel likely because we’ve found some sort of idea and we approached FOX and FOX has not quite figured out how to incorporate Dean’s and my deal, and Will’s (Smith) deal. Will wants to do it in some sort of a package they can live with. So it’s just been in negations now since forever, and naturally FOX says “Why don’t you do it without Will Smith?” I said Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. And, so, it’s in limbo and lately the studios are fighting. Like gross players, and Will is a gross player and is probably the only gross player right now who’s worth his gross. So we’ll see what happens. I would love to do it.

There’s a story. There’s a very really good great story, a very cool one.
