What was it like playing Dan, diving into this world that’s shrouded in so much secrecy?
Jason Clarke: Dan, he’s a CIA Operative. He runs the interrogation programme and then he moves back to CIA Headquarters at Langley. He’s a guy that… typically a lot of these CIA guys, they’re undercover, they’re people that are able to morph and change, you know? And in that they do the dangerous work that the country they work for may require. They get an extraordinary reward, satisfaction from what they do. They’re quiet, nobody knows them. They’re just out there toiling, day in and day out. And for Dan, the great thing about playing this character is that he starts hands on, he has the wild hair and the beard (laughs), he’s out there on the frontier. And then he makes a change, he slicks back the hair, goes to Washington, puts the suit on and enters the world of politics. He’s still very sharp in what he’s doing, but it’s a very different way of achieving the results. It was a lot of fun to play that.
