Last summer it was first rumored that Penelope Cruz is set to appear in the tentatively titled ‘Bond 24′; following in the footsteps of her husband, Javier Bardem, who played the Bond villain in ‘Skyfall.’ Today, France’s Premiere magazine (via The Playlist) noticed that in a recent release schedule update from Sony, Cruz was listed in the cast alongside Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes and Naomie Harris. While this could be a mistake, with filming to commence this summer I’m sure we’ll be hearing some concrete news about the cast of ‘Bond 24′ shortly. Just last Friday it was rumored that Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor is the top choice to play 007′s nemesis in the next James Bond pic.
‘Skyfall’ helmer Sam Mendes will again direct while John Logan is writing the script. ‘Bond 24′ is set for release in UK cinemas on October 23th, 2015 and in US cinemas from November 6th, 2015. The previous 007 flick, ‘Skyfall,’ took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise.
The Wrap bring word that Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor is the top choice to play 007′s nemesis in the next James Bond pic. While no offer has been made yet and scheduling would still have to be worked out, sources insist that Ejiofor’s the front-runner for the job. Daniel Craig is already set to reprise as James Bond with Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris set to return as well. ‘Skyfall’ helmer Sam Mendes will again direct while John Logan is writing the script. The plan is to start production in the summer.

At this moment in time, very little is known about the upcoming 007 movie other than the principal talents involved. Daniel Craig is making his fourth appearance as the man 007, and Sam Mendes is once again directing, though without the incredible work of cinematographer Roger Deakins. Another key ingredient returning is screenwriter John Logan, who recently sat down with the good people over at Empire and discussed the movie. “Right now the first draft is almost done,” he told the outlet about the sttus of ‘Bond 24.’ “I’m terrifically excited about it! I’ve been working very closely with Sam (Mendes), and it’s been joyous to pick up from our work on Skyfall and just continue on with the storytelling. The new movie continues the themes of Skyfall. Some of the characters and themes that we began to introduce in Skyfall will play out, I hope successfully, in the next movie.”
Out and about on the promotional campaign for Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel,’ Ralph Fiennes opened up to MTV briefly about the next James Bond film, the tentatively titled ‘Bond 24.’ While he says that he knows nothing about the ‘Skyfall’ follow-up itself, he did confirm he’s got some filming dates already marked in his calendar. “It’s meant to start shooting in October,” Fiennes said.
At this moment in time, very little is known about the upcoming 007 movie other than the principal talents involved. Daniel Craig is making his fourth appearance as the man 007, and Sam Mendes is once again directing, though without the help of master cinematographer Roger Deakins. ‘Skyfall’ co-writer John Logan is providing the script, which Ralph Fiennes has yet to read. “I haven’t read a script yet, so I can’t tell you much,” he said. “They’d probably swear me to secrecy anyway.” Alongside Ralph Fiennes and Danie Craig, Naomie Harris will also return.
While three of the key ingredients for enormous success of ‘Skyfall’ have been confirmed for its untitled follow-up (director Sam Mendes, writer John Logan and lead Daniel Craig), it looks as if cinematographer Roger Deakins won’t be returning for the latest 007 adventure. Hitfix’s Kristopher Tapley tweeted, “At dinner with Deakins last night I learned some news that makes me sad: He won’t be shooting the next Bond.” No reason was given for Deakins not returning for ‘Bond 24,’ but I believe it would be safe to assume that scheduling is the likeliest culprit, as Deakins is one of the most in-demand cinematographers around.
Roger Deakins might just be at the top of my “how-the-hell-does-this-guy-not-have-an-Oscar” list considering his incredible work on the likes of ‘Skyfall,’ ‘Shawshank Redemption,’ ‘No Country for Old Men,’ ‘Fargo’ and especially ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,’ for me the most beautifully shot film in modern cinema history.
‘Skyfall’ Writer John Logan Talks ‘Bond 24′: “Build On What We Did On ‘Skyfall’, But Make It Its Own Unique Animal”
During a recent chat with ‘Skyfall’ writer John Logan for ‘Penny Dreadful,’ IGN asked him about the upcoming 24th and 25th installments in the James Bond franchise, the first of which ‘Skyfall’ director Sam Mendes will also helm. Details on Bond films are notoriously kept under lock and key, and Logan was hesitant to reveal particulars about the story for the upcoming film. “All I can say about Bond is that I’m happily writing it” he said. Joking that, “Sam [Mendes] would rappel through the window and kill me.” Though the writer did indicate that the next two films would carry forward what had been established with ‘Skyfall.’
One of the intentions with ‘Skyfall’ was to recapture and contemporize some of the classic elements of Bond. “My goal is to write a great movie that’s appropriate, to build on what we did on Skyfall, but make it its own unique animal,” Logan said of the teams aspirations for Bond 24. “The themes, ideas and the characters from Skyfall can obviously continue on, because it is a franchise, and it is an ongoing story. So I think there’s resonance from Skyfall in the new movie.”
