Christopher Nolan & Christian Bale Talk ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
Apr 28th
To tide us over until next weeks release of the new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s eagerly awaited conclusion to his Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ The LA Times has released an interview for the film with Christopher Nolan, Special effects supervisor Chris Corbould, Morgan Freeman, and Christian Bale. In the interview, Nolan opened up about why he thinks ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is an “appropriate conclusion” to Bruce Wayne’s odyssey: “Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story,” the filmmaker said of the script he co-wrote with his brother Jonathan Nolan. “And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story … unlike the comics, these things don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful.”
On the topic of Christopher Nolan’s approach to secrecy, Christian Bale had the following to say: “Chris likes his secrets, and he keeps an air of mystery about his scripts and his plans. And I like that. He does it for a reason and it’s worked and the people who work on his projects know that this is the way we do it.” Bale also spoke on a “special aura” surrounding ‘The Dark Knight Rises’: “I remember when I first read the script, of course it was all top secret,” Bale said during a break in the shoot. “I went round by Chris’ house, was shut in the room with the script — not allowed to leave with it — and it hit me that this was the last one. What Chris couldn’t believe was how slow I read because I go back and re-read until I have it all in my mind. I was in there six or seven hours. It was dark when I came out. And I was smiling.”
The second theatrical trailer for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ will be showing in-front of Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ from May 4th in the US. There’s currently no word if we’ll be seeing this trailer before international screenings of ‘The Avengers,’ as the film is released before May 4th in many territories. Expect confirmation regarding the international attachment of the new ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ trailer soon, alongside a specific date it will be emerging on the online. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is released in cinemas July 20th. Christopher Nolan directs the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan. The plot for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is being kept securely under wraps. I think it’s safe to say that, judging by the first theatrical trailer and the previous two films, I’d expect something E P I C!
