Dec 4th
A new clip from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Blu-ray combo pack has arrived online thanks to the good people over at Yahoo! Movies. The clip centers on one of my favourite scenes in the film: the savage sewer fight between Christian Bale’s Batman and Tom Hardy’s Bane. The video features the likes of director Christopher Nolan, editor Lee Smith, Christian Bale and Tom Hardy discussing the scene. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download now.
’The Dark Knight Rises’ sees Christian Bale returning to the dual role of Bruce Wayne and Batman alongside series regulars Commissioner Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman), and Alfred (Michael Caine). Newcomers to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy include Tom Hardy’s Bane, Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake, Marion Cotillard’s Miranda Tate, Matthew Modine’s Foley, and Ben Mendelsohn’s Daggett. The story for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is set eight years after Batman took the fall for Two Face’s crimes in ‘The Dark Knight.’ It sees the Caped Crusader resurface to protect a city that brands him an enemy as a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest. Christopher Nolan’s conclusion to his Dark Knight trilogy is currently the 7th highest grossing movie of all time at the worldwide box office with earnings of $1,080.8 billion. The film is also the 7th highest grossing film of all time in the United States with $447.9 million earned.

Christopher Nolan Speaks On The Ending Of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ & The Tone Of His Batman Trilogy
Nov 29th
With next week welcoming the home video release of ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ director Christopher Nolan caught up with Film Comment to speak on the finale to his Dark Knight trilogy and the monumental series as a whole. On the topic of the “realistic” tone of the series, where it’s set in a world that Batman is plausible and not particularly stylized or exaggerated - compared to most comic-book-derived movies, the filmmaker said:
“The term “realism” is often confusing and used sort of arbitrarily. I suppose “relatable” is the word I would use. I wanted a world that was realistically portrayed, in that even though outlandish events may be taking place, and this extraordinary figure may be walking around these streets, the streets would have the same weight and validity of the streets in any other action movie. So they’d be relatable in that way. And so the more texturing and layering that we could get into this film, the more tactile it was, the more you would feel and be excited by the action. So just on a technical level, I really wanted to take on this idea of what I call the tactile quality. You want to really understand what things would smell like in this world, what things would taste like, when bones start being crunched or cars start pancaking. You feel these things in a way because the world isn’t intensely artificial and created by computer graphics, which result in an anodyne, sterile quality that’s not as exciting. For me that was about making the character more special. If I can believe in that world because I recognize it and can imagine myself walking down that street, then when this extraordinary figure of Batman comes swooping down in this theatrical costume and presenting this very theatrical aspect, that’s going to be more exciting to me.”
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Bonus Features “End of a Legend” Clip
Nov 28th
A new clip from the featurette ‘The End of a Legend,’ one of the many extras included in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ upcoming Blu-ray combo pack, has arrived online thanks to the people over at EW. The clip features the likes of Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman sounding off on their experience working with Christopher Nolan on the film. ’The Dark Knight Rises’ is available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download from December 3rd in the UK and December 4th in the US.
Speaking in the clip, Anne Hathaway says, “If you can be cop No. 2 in a Chris Nolan movie, or be Catwoman, or whoever, you know that you are in such good hands, and you’re going to have the time of your life, and I’m really going to miss this one, because of what I got to do, but also because of all the people I got to come to work and be around every day. It was a beautiful experience.” While on the topic of first seeing Christian Bale in the Batman role on set, Tom Hardy adds, “I remember seeing Christian in the makeup chair, and he looked really weedy, and I thought to myself, ‘I can handle him,’” says Hardy, smiling. “And then I went and got changed into my Bane costume, and started flexing my muscles, feeling confident, and then Batman turned up, and he was about three foot taller than me! And I was, like, ‘Huhhhhhh!’ You know. There’s that 3-year-old in me that’s like, ‘That’s Batman!’”
