Evangeline Lilly Talks About Her Role In ‘The Hobbit’
Jan 25th
Entertainment Weekly recently spoke to Evangeline Lilly about her character, Tauriel, in Peter Jackson’s two-part movie adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit.’ The actor described the Woodland Elf as a warrior: ”She’s actually the head of the Elven guard. She’s the big shot in the army. So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she’s lethal and deadly. You definitely wouldn’t want to be caught in a dark alley next to Tauriel.”
Lilly also commented on how much we’ll see the character in the films: “She’s not in the first film very much. She comes into the first film near the end, and has a very small part to play. Her role in the second film is much more involved. Although, I have to say, when I first read the scripts and took the job, she had a lot less going on in the second film. I think the role is becoming a bit more demanding that I had expected it to be. There’s a lot more for me to do now, which is a lot of fun, but it’s a little more pressure.”
The two films are set in Middle-earth 60 years before ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ which Jackson and his film-making team brought to the big screen in the fantastic blockbuster trilogy that culminated with the Oscar-winning ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.’ ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ has been pencilled in for a December 14th release date. ‘The Hobbit: There and Back Again’ will hit cinemas December 13th, 2013.
Peter Jackson Talks On ‘The Hobbit’ – Reveals It’s Tonally & Visually Consistent With His ‘Lord of the Rings’ Films
Jan 20th
MTV recently spoke to Peter Jackson about his two-part movie adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit.’ The filmmaker revealed that it was always his intention to keep ‘The Hobbit’ tonally and visually consistent with his”Lord of the Rings” films: ”We wanted it to be a part of the five-film series. “Fortunately, Tolkien wrote a lot of extra material in the appendices of ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ where he himself kind of tied the two stories together, 20 or 30 years after the publication of ‘The Hobbit.’ So we’ve been able to use some of that material.”
Jackson also revealed that filming on the two Hobbit films will wrap up about July time, while also explaining how he’s more than thrilled to once again be dabbling in dwarves and dragons: “I’m enjoying the movie [as much as the fans], which is the thing that I’m really excited about. “I love going to work every day. I love shooting it. In February, we start another 100 days of shooting, so by about July, we’re done. We will have shot both movies by that stage.”
