John Malkovich Interview For ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’
Jul 1st
When the war on Cybertron between the Autobots and Decepticons appears lost to the Autobots, their leader, Sentinel Prime, attempts to launch the Ark from their planet, containing technology that could have saved his kind. Attacked by Starscream, it crashes on Earth’s moon in 1961. President John F. Kennedy makes his famous promise to the nation to put a man on the moon. The 1969 NASA moon landing is actually an investigation of the wrecked spacecraft.
As Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is taking his first tenuous steps into adulthood, while remaining a reluctant human ally of Optimus Prime and the Autobots, the Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft on the Moon and must race against the Decepticons to find it and learn its secrets, which could turn the tide into the apocalyptic final battle. ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ is out in cinemas now in 2D, Real D 3D and IMAX 3D. Check out what John Malkovich, arguably one of the finest actors working today, had to say about ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ below.
How did you get involved with this project?
John Malkovich: I was first approached to be involved by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian (producers), who I was working on with a film called ‘Red’ at the time. I really liked them enormously. They approached me about doing this and gave me the first two films, which of course I hadn’t seen, I don’t get to see anything, I’m always working (laughs). I really enjoyed them, especially the first one, then they got me the script which I liked, I liked the character. I had a couple of long talks with Michael Bay about where we wanted to go, to see if we were on the same page, “are you ok with this? Do you, or don’t you like this idea?“ Ect, to me it was like a vacation, it was a lot of fun.
Michael Bay Interview For ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’
Jun 29th
In Michael Bay’s hugely anticipated summer blockbuster ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon,’ the Autobots Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide and Sideswipe led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009s ‘Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.’ In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf) has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime “Transformers” character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth. ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ is released in cinemas June 29th in 2D, Real D 3D and IMAX 3D. Check out what director Michael Bay had to say about the film below.
How did you go about deciding to shoot in 3D? I havn’t been a big fan of 3D recently, but with this film you definitely raised the bar.
Michael Bay: I was very sceptical of 3D, I thought actually it could be a fad. James Cameron invited me onto the Avatar set several times, when I was trying to make my decision about this movie Steven Spielberg said to me, “Michael you should do this movie in 3D.” So I investigated it a bit more, just the technology, the equipment, James Cameron just finally said to me, “Michael, you’ve gotta do this movie in 3D, you’re the type of director who is going to love 3D.” When it was all said and done, before we did this, I told my crew, “this needs to be the best 3D, live-action movie made.” It’s very difficult when you take 3D cameras into the streets, strap them on to skydivers helmets, it’s a difficult format. If it works, and I believe it works so well in our movie, it is more immersive.
This really is a movie you have to see in 3D, it was made for 3D, every shot was made with that in mind. It’s a much different experience. I know audiences have been saying they’ve been let down by 3D, they truly have been let down, with these movies it’s often the afterthought instead of the forethought.
Patrick Dempsey Interview For ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’
Jun 29th
In Michael Bay’s hugely anticipated summer blockbuster ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon,’ Patrick Dempsey stars alongside the likes of Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Ken Jeong, Frances McDormand, Josh Duhamel, Alan Tudyk and John Malkovich as Dylan Gould. Check out what he had to say about the film below. ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ is released in cinemas June 29th in 2D, Real D 3D and IMAX 3D.
You’re a new addition to the franchise, how was that? Can you tell us a little bit about your character?
Patrick Dempsey: Everybody was really welcoming, there was no ego, people just wanted to make a good movie. Michael Bay sets the tone with the work ethic, it was really easy to be honest. My character is Dylan Gould, he’s an investment banker, car collector, racer, I loved being around all the beautiful cars. He’s a legacy in many ways, his father was an accountant and also did a lot of business in Washington. Dylan has had to inherit the family business. His passion is restoring old automobiles though. He’s Carly’s boss, Rosie’s character, Carly is a very talented organiser, she’s my assistant, Dylan likes her on that level and also on a visual level (laughs).
It’s such a huge worldwide franchise. Everyone knows about it and it was such a beloved cartoon too. You look at the older ones and you see how it had evolved, how these characters have evolved now to this incarnation, with this movie. It’s a fascinating journey to see how they’ve all been refined and brought to life. To be a part of that is always exciting.

Where do we pick Sam up in ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon?’
Shia LaBeouf: In this third movie his maturation has continued, he’s now gone through two wars, there’s a bit of a PTSD thing going on, on top of the neurosis that was already instilled in him from his youth and from his family. He’s in the middle of a new relationship, in the middle of joining the work force. The government can’t just hire you as the guy who saved the world twice and put you in an office. With all the credentials he has, and after getting an award from the president he goes off seeking a job for his future.
Tyrese Gibson Interview For ‘Transformers: Dark Of The Moon’
Jun 25th
In Michael Bay’s hugely anticipated summer blockbuster ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon,’ Tyrese Gibson stars alongside the likes of Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, John Turturro, Patrick Dempsey, Ken Jeong, Frances McDormand, Josh Duhamel, Alan Tudyk and John Malkovich as USAF Chief Robert Epps, a combat controller and a member of NEST. Check out what he had to say about the film below. ‘Transformers: Dark Of The Moon’ hits cinemas July 29th.
There’s such huge interest in this franchise…
Tyrese Gibson: After you see Transformers 2 you think where are they gonna take the action? How is it even possible to go anywhere from where the action was on 2? But they’ll see, they’ll see. It’s really crazy man, it’s a lot for your brain to take in. There’s so much action, so much drama, but yet it’s all so focused, it all makes sense in the end.
This is our toast to the fans, that have kept us relevant, kept us hot. I’m able to go on record right now and say outside of the fact that I’m in the film, I’m Transformers biggest fan. I was a huge fan when I was a kid. When I got a call to be a part of this from Transformers 1 it was like a dream come true. I’ve even got a tattoo on my forearm, I’m committed to this franchise, it’s beautiful to know that the fans are showing up and keeping us hot. It’s a great ride, Transformers fans will not be disappointed. The scope is much bigger, the 3D is a very big deal, it’s not just 3D, it’s a real experience, it’s huge, it’s epic!
