Michael Shannon Talks About Playing General Zod In Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman: Man Of Steel’
Sep 7th

In recent chinwags with Moviefone and MTV News, Michael Shannon opened up about playing General Zod in the upcoming superhero blockbuster ‘Superman: Man Of Steel.’ Following a set image showing what looked to be Shannon wearing a motion-capture suit, the actor has confirmed to Moviefone that it was indeed him in the suit: “Yeah, it’s one of the most humiliating garments that exists in the known universe, yes. It’s very tight. It has a variety of different colors and shapes on it and it makes you feel like you’re the court jester. And it’s funny because when I met with Zack we were talking about it before it started and he mentioned that there was going to be a lot of CGI, or whatever. I said, ‘Just don’t make me wear one of those silly suits.’ He said, ‘Oh, yeah, don’t worry, I know exactly what you’re talking about.’ I was like, ‘It’s going to be really hard for me to be intimidating if I have to wear one of those silly suits.’ He said, ‘I totally understand.’ Then I showed up and he’s like, ‘Dude, I swear to God, it’s going to be so bad ass when we done. Trust me, it’s going to be wicked.’ And, you know, people understand and you get used to it. The first day, you feel like you’re getting rushed by a fraternity… and then it wears off the next day. Because I’m not the only one wearing one – there are other people wearing them, too.
Speaking to MTV News, Shannon shed some light on his incarntion of General Zod: “I’m not going to impersonate Terrence Stamp. I’m not going to have a British accent or anything. I’m still getting my foot into the pool, you know? I just started working on it and all I can say is that it’s very well written. There’s a lot of really great opportunities to re-invent it for myself.”
On the subject of Shannon taking what is, for him, a fairly uncharacteristic role, the actor explained that he is anxious to play up the militaristic side of General Zod: “To me, [being a General is] such an interesting kind of iconoclastic character,” he says, ”I can’t imagine even being a Sergeant , let alone a General. He’s in charge of the entire miltary of Krypton. That’s going to take every little shred of imagination that I have. It’s a good challenge.”
‘Superman: Man Of Steel’ also stars Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as the plucky journalist Lois Lane, Antje Traue as Faora, Russell Crowe as Superman’s biological father Jor-El, Laurence Fishburn as Perry White, Kevin Costner as Superman/Clarke’s adoptive father Jonathan Kent, and Diane Lane, who plays his wife Martha. Written by David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan, the film is set for release June 14th, 2013.
Michael Shannon Talks About Playing General Zod In ‘Superman: Man Of Steel’
Apr 12th

Hot on the heels of Sunday’s announcement that Michael Shannon has been cast as the supervillain General Zod in Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman: Man of Steel,’/FILM have uncovered this video of Shannon speaking about the role at the River Run International Film Festival: “So I go meet him [Zack Snyder] and he’s seriously sitting there and he’s telling me – he’s like ‘You can’t read the script, so I’m just gonna tell you what happens.’ And he spent like a half hour telling me every scene in this movie…and then it’s a month later, it’s like ‘OK, you’re General Zod.’”
He spoke on the casting process, how he got the role, Christopher Reeves, Henry Cavill and more: “This Superman thing, It’s ridiculous!” says Shannon of the casting, “It just came out of nowhere. I’m talking to my agent and she goes, ‘How about Superman?’ ‘What?’ The idea that I would ever be in ‘Superman’. ‘Are you serious?’” Check out the full video below. Michael Shannon Cast As General Zod In Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman: Man Of Steel’
Apr 11th
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have announced that Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman movie, ‘Superman: Man Of Steel.’ He joins Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as the plucky journalist Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Superman/Clarke’s adoptive father Jonathan Kent, and Diane Lane, who plays his wife Martha.
Shannon is coming off a memorable first season in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. I’ve been a massive fan of Shannon, he has no equal when it comes to playing f*cked up weirdo’s zany characters. Snyder stated, “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.” Look out for ‘Superman: Man of Steel’ swooping into cinemas December 2012. Edgar Ramirez/Michael Shannon To Play A Villain In Zack Snyder’s Upcoming Superman Movie? UPDATE
Mar 24th
Those astute insiders over at Latinoreview have caught wind that the Domino, Vantage Point, Bourne Ultimatum and Carlos star Edgar Ramirez “is supposedly being eyed for a villain role in Zack Snyder’s Superman film.”
There’s no idea what role Ramirez is reportedly in the running for, Viggo Mortensen had previously been linked to play General Zod but that rumour was batted down by Zack Snyder earlier this week.
Details in the report are incredibly vague as the secrecy surrounding this project tight. Ramirez gave arguably the most multi layered and supreme performance of 2010 in the 5 hour mini-series/movie Carlos. Ramirez is currently filming the Clash of the Titans sequel Wrath of the Titans.
UPDATE: Deadline report that there is some interest in Michael Shannon portraying the villain. Shannon is coming off a memorable first season in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. I’ve been a massive fan of Shannon, he has no equal when it comes to playing f*cked up weirdo’s zany characters.
Christian Bale Reveals That ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Will Be The Last Time He Portrays Batman ‘Unless Christopher Nolan Says Different’
Nov 23rd

In a recent chinwag with Totalfilm, Christian Bale declared that the upcoming Batman film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘, will be the third and final time he portrays Bruce Wayne/Batman ‘unless [Christopher Nolan] says different’.
“The thing is that this will be, I believe, unless [Christopher Nolan] says different, this will be the last time I’m playing Batman.”
Christopher Nolan has said for a while now that ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ will be the conclusion to the story he started with ‘Batman Begins’. ”Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we’re telling. And it hearkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories. That’s what we do.”
In the interview Bale also reveals what he knows about the top-secret script :
“Chris will let me know what I need to know when I need to know it,” he said. “It’s our fourth movie together, and I probably know a little bit more than maybe some people out there, but I think most people will be surprised by how little I do know.”
“It just hasn’t been necessary yet,” he continued. “I know he’ll give me plenty of time to prepare whatever I need to for it and I’ll discover it. He’s a pretty damn good filmmaker I trust that he’s going to come up with something wonderful.”
The Dark Knight Rises has a release date of June 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy.
Tom Hardy Rumoured To Be Playing Dr. Hugo Strange In Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
Nov 17th
I’m still holding out for Catwoman, but apparently according to Batman News and it’s unnamed source, Tom Hardy is rumoured to be playing Dr. Hugo Strange as the main villain in The Dark Knight Rises. Strange is as mad as a hatter with box of frog‘s – it’d be a great role for Hardy.
My source strongly believes that Hardy is going to be playing Hugo Strange. This is the first bit of information from this person that I’m publishing, however they have been accurate in the past. For example, this person told me weeks before the recent Christoper Nolan interview that The Riddler would not be appearing in the film. They also mentioned that Rachel Weisz and Anne Hathaway were in the running for the lead female role a couple of weeks before Deadline posted their list.
I have to admit all this villain speculation is doing my head in! So far it looks like we’ll have a male villain in Tom Hardy, and a female villain in which the likes of Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley are said to be circling (along with Batman‘s/Bruce Wayne‘s love interest). Hopefully we can get some concrete casting news soon. The Dark Knight Rises has a release date of June 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy.
