Seth Rogen, Megan Fox, Will Ferrell, Danny McBride & More Join James Franco’s ‘Zeroville’ Adaptation
Screen Daily bring word that Seth Rogen, Jacki Weaver, Megan Fox, Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Dave Franco, Craig Robinson, Joey King and Horatio Sanz have boarded James Franco’s comedy-drama ‘Zeroville,’ which is shooting now with Franco both directing and leading. In the adaptation of Steve Erickson’s acclaimed 2007 novel, Franco follows a young film-obsessed architecture student (with images of Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift tattooed on his shaved head, as seen above) as he arrives on Hollywood Boulevard in 1969. Mistaken for a perpetrator in the Charles Manson murders, he enters a world of sex, drugs, rock and roll, the decline of the movie studios and the rise of independent renegade directors. Through encounters with former starlets, burglars, political guerrillas, punk musicians and veteran filmmakers he dives into the ‘renegade America of the ’70s and ‘80s’.
After collaborating on the 2010 comedy ‘The Other Guys,’ Mark Wahlberg is said to be in talks to re-team with Will Ferrell in the Paramount Pictures and Gary Sanchez-produced comedy ‘Daddy’s Home.’ ‘Horrible Bosses 2′ helmer Sean Anders and John Morris are reportedly in discussions to direct and production would begin later this year.
Deadline are reporting that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are set to re-team with their ‘Step Brothers’ and ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’ director Adam McKay for a new comedy titled ‘Border Guards.’ In the film, Ferrell and Reilly playing two hapless but earnest friends who decide to give purpose to their lives by protecting America’s borders from illegal immigrants. In the process they find themselves accidentally stranded in Mexico without identification and must sneak back into the USA. Ferrell most recently starred in McKay’s ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,’ with Reilly also appearing in a cameo role.
The ‘Border Guards’ script is being penned by Jesse Armstrong, a British comedy writer who with writing partner Sam Bain created the Channel 4 sitcoms ‘Peep Show’ and ‘Fresh Meat,’ and the Danny Boyle-directed series ‘Babylon.’ Armstrong’s also scripted a biopic on Republican strategist Lee Atwater for Gary Sanchez with Adam McKay attached to direct.
According to THR, Will Ferrell is set for a lead role in ‘Match Maker,’ a sports comedy about the legendary conflict between Bobby Riggs (Ferrell) and Billie Jean King. Additionally, Steven Conrad has come aboard to write the script for the project, which is being developed by Chernin Entertainment and Gary Sanchez Productions.
‘Match Maker’ adapts the ESPN Magazine article “The Match Maker: Bobby Riggs, The Mafia and The Battle of the Sexes” penned by Don Van Natta Jr. The feature covers the infamous rivalry between Bobby Riggs, a tennis champ past his prime who came out of retirement to challenge women’s tennis player King in a 1973 game that became known as “The Battle of the Sexes”. Over 50 million Americans tuned in to watch Billie Jean King beat Riggs and win the $100,000 prize. It was later postulated that Riggs lost on purpose in order to erase some gambling debts he had to the mob.
Deadline have caught wind that Alison Brie, who’s absolutely brilliant in ‘Community,’ is set to join Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart in ‘Get Hard,’ the Etan Cohen-directed comedy that is set for a March 27th, 2015 release. ‘Get Hard’ follows a rich bank manager (Ferrell) who is wrongfully convicted and sentenced to time in a maximum security prison. To prepare himself for his incarceration, Ferrell’s character hires the man who washes his car (Hart) to toughen him up in his final 30 days of freedom. Brie will play the fiancee of Ferrell’s character. The ‘Get Hard’ script was written by Ian Roberts and Jay Martel, who are executive producers on Comedy Central’s ‘Key & Peele.’
