Rob Kazinsky & Willem Dafoe To Join Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’
Jul 29th
Variety reveal that Rob Kazinsky has joined Guillermo del Toro’s hugely anticipated sci-fi adventure flick ’Pacific Rim,’ while Willem Dafoe is in early talks to play the part of a rogue scientist with expertise on alien creatures. The two actors would join Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Max Martini in del Toro’s spin on the Japanese Kaiju genre (giant monsters). It’s good to see Kazinsky back in a tentpole movie after he had to drop out of ‘The Hobbit’ in April for personal reasons.
Travis Beacham’s script is set in 2025, the 12th year of a war against giant malevolent alien creatures who reside in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. To combat its annihilation, the planet must band together and use highly advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. Idris Elba will be playing the lead role of Sensi – which was originally developed for Tom Cruise. ’Pacific Rim’ has already entered pre-production and is set to start principal photography in September. ‘Pacific Rim’ is lined up for a July 12th, 2013 berth.
New Poster And Images For Miral – Starring Freida Pinto, Willem Dafoe & Yasmine Elmasri
Aug 3rd
I can’t wait to see this, it looks fantastic, the cast alone is first-rate with Freida Pinto, Willem Dafoe, Yasmine Elmasri, Alexander Siddig and Vanessa Redgrave. Miral is scheduled for a December 3rd release through The Weinstein Company, it will be premiering at the 67th Venice International Film Festival in September followed by an appearance at the 35th Toronto International Film Festival just days later – in which I will be attending
. I’m sure this will be a strong contender during the awards season. Miral is the first feature film from director Julian Schnabel since 2007 with The Diving Bell and the Butterfly – which was nominated for a number of Oscar’s. Miral is adapted by Rula Jebreal from her own novel of the same name, the film revolves around a real orphanage in Jerusalem set up by a Palestinian woman (Hiam Abbass) in the wake of the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel. The story will span the years 1948-94. Check out the synopsis below, this looks like a cracker!
Based on the novel by Rula Jebreal (who also penned the screenplay), the movie revolves around a real-life orphanage established by a Palestinian woman (Abbass) following the 1948 creation of the Israeli state. (Pinto) was sent to the orphanage in 1978. When, later in life, she goes to teach at a refugee camp and falls for an activist, Miral is torn between resistance and education as separate paths to political change.
Daybreakers
Oct 25th

Through the history of cinema no sub genre has been rinsed more than Vampire films. Lately they have been bastardized by some poor Films, TV shows(Buffy The Vampire) and the extremely gay Twilight. Just as soon as I totally lose faith I can thank the vampire heavens for Daybreaker! Daybreaker looks like the first vampire film in a long time that has a badass and inventive concept. The concept behind Daybreakers is similar to the book I Am Legend (not the movie with Will Smith that was some watered down BS if you’ve read the book). Edward Dalton is a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race (Daybreakers). Starring Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill and Willem Dafoe
Daybreakers is in cinemas January 8th 2010
